the shorter board should duck dive much deeper. so try to stay off the bottom, for your fins sake.
can you take the fins off. first try going fin-less, then one, two, etc. the rail shouldn't dig but more of a slow slide.
i don't know the differance beteen the XM and ProLite. The most important feature of any board bag is color. White or Silver will reflect the sun....
