Attention: spots named are no longer the way they were back in the day. SO, all you "HEY DON'T NAME SPOTS" people just chill. There are no secrets in Jersey anyway.....except for one. And I know it. I might be able to show anyone with $50 and a boat two point breaks. No not that Sandy Hook pseudo-point. But we need a boat. Ok here we go.

Being a surf stoked grom - high school, ya know, you can't beat that period. Everything's still gold Ponyboys.

    Actually having waves.

Having Cape May Ave in Harvey Town to myself 85% of the time. I miss Harvey something fierce.

Surfing till dark, on a May night, as a senior in high school and driving home thru deserted Pine Barren roads....on a Tuesday in early May....94 WYSP Howard Stern all morning and classic rock all day.

Heck, I miss the old radio stations...

I miss NJSURFER42's dad at the contests.....

Jeremiah McElwee used to be cocky and surfed. I miss that and his Ocean Acres' home that we had to ourselves as high school students. Stevie P

Seth Stafford's flooded mozzie-producing mansion in Surf City, and hearing him say, "look at that left bowl" as we checked the 1-2' surf. He was stoked. Heck we all were...

Panzone's was a little better. Hey it still fires no matter what any of these no-taste people say.

Jumping off the stairs from the boardwalk at 10th St OC. No beach at high tides during solid swells, matey. OC used to cook just as the winds started switching offshore from south to north back then. Ax MIS, a few blocks north of the 14th ST pier LONNNGGG lefts would peel towards the pier. Ah yeah riding peeling lefts, oh no, in front of drain pipes at 10th St. Oh yeah these are solid swells we are talking abooot, in the 4-8' range, that happened a few times a month from Sept-May. That doesn't happen anymore.

Checking the 7th St - 8th ST(OCNJ) zoo and seeing it a fat three foot.....and then heading to 14th St and 2 dudes were out and it was 3-5.....fat but long, with enough juice to throw some wicked spinners. Ha, yeah I used to do them things.

Hurricane Gloria for many reasons. Some of the cleanest biggest surf I've seen in person, and my first experience with a hurrycane since returning home to the Original 13. Heck, I got that Friday off from school. Twitchen.

They just paved the roads in my neighborhood and just before dark, I got to cruise my skateboard on the new asphalt. Surfed, 2-3 foot leftovers that Sunday, and that Sunday was the first taste of fall that year. CHilly temps and an brisk offshore. That set the stage for my love of real weather....surfing in conditions antithesis of the typical surf dream( grey moody days, cold, cold, cold and all of that rain snow sleet......)

I didn't read this thread yet, but just saw the old surf reports. YES ! F yeah. Dude, I still call Surfers Supplies every night. That dude on the other end is like family to me now. " stay close to the curl......." Freaken A
lets see. Grog's 201-749-8849 ?? Number now defunct.
Surf Unlimited 609-494-3996...no report exists these days...died with when that John dude left. The younger owner is too cool to do that. Prick.
Those where my numbers - ah man it was such a better time. You kids just don't know. Ah they say all generations say that. But nah, this time it's for real. You see there is a difference between granpappy hating on The Beatles and me dissing Kanye West and the whole music industry of today. Paul, George and John had talent.......today's acts don't. You see....there's a difference.

Man I have to admit I was a bit screwed up the past two months, I'm ok now. But, man, I have to say I wasn't digging this place that much no more. Maybe it was the sniff....

But man, FLSURFDOG, you brought me back. This thread made my day. I am awash with nostalgia and I've just been reading old surf mags the past two weeks. And old High Times. Wow, you should see the THMQ from 1992 - mexi...mexi...mexi and a few "domestics" thrown around. "Skunk" Ha remember when "skunk" was the big one. And what the hell is "red hair sense"

Thanks FLSurf Dog. I should buy you a Piping Hot steamer...or are you a Victory type?

Hey Gotcha person....I throw Instinct at you.

    right on yank....

Hey Riley. I have a box of old school mags too. I'm going to blow the dust of this weekend. My mom saved them in the attic when I left home to "soul search" and a decade later gave them to me when they moved. I need to scope them out. Probably 5-10 years of random 80's mags.

OH YEA... you just brought back a memory that would have been gone forever!... Behind Cape May Convention Hall used to be a break called BackYard. We used to jump off the pier into the inside section, and if you were lucky to get one that broke all the way through, you could actually surf under the boardwalk! They actually tried to create an "artificial reef" of sorts, using bag bags of sand that you could see from the pier if the water was clear enough. Beach replenishment made that go away a long time ago.

There weren't as many people, and most of 'em weren't fat.

There weren't as many big box stores, strip malls, and McMansion developments.

    1) kids could be kids
    2) beebee guns were ok
    3) a kid with a pocketknife in school didn't get arrested with the school locked down for the day
    4) kids could play on school property all weekend organizing pickup games as opposed to being charged for trespassing for being there 'off hours'
    5) more open areas to ride quads, less developments
    6) peaches came from NJ, not China
    7) Washington township (Gloucester county) was peach fields, not south philly trash (5-7 tie together here)
    8)cigarette adds were cool
    9) you could be 18 to buy cigs in NJ and there were smoking sections in high schools for students and staff alike
    10) Jerry was still alive
    11) my youth...where did it go?!?!
