Yes. If Fanning wins he's next heat he wins... If he loses and Kelly wins the contest he's champ

Pupo looked like he had a shade of Gerry Lopez on his gem!

Fanning is aging me in this heat vs Nicol. C'mon MICK!

Congratulations to the 2nd coming of Jesus, Mick Fanning - he kicked a 97-yarder, and another long won earlier to win the super bowl of surfing - the ASP World title (for the 3rd time). I'll never forget the kids following him in the water.

Best part of it all is Kelly can't really retire yet.

I didn't think Micks wave was a 9.7 - too shouldery and not nearly as large or critical as yadin's waves...but judging is so subjective anyway and I think they just wanted to give mick the title and appease the fans.

Agreed, no way it was a 9.7 but still a great wave and clutch performance.

Nick's first wave backdoor wave didn't deserve to be over a 9 either, it was smaller than everything else out there and he's going front side. Yadin had a better overall heat I felt, some solid deep slots. Though Neptune gave Nick two waves at the end of both heats so suppose it was destiny. Would love to see a final heat between him and Slater though.

How was Micks ride a 9.57 and Kellys backdoor barrel was only a 9.07? Kelly's wave was at least a point-2points better

Yadin surfed a better heat. This is all politics.

Now let's get back to talking about 23ft jersey waves and Hindu honeys.

Seriously, though.... that last wave was amazing, and Mick deserved the score.

Mermaids sent Mick two Hail Mary waves in both heats, and he cashed in. Congrats to him...
And... we get to see Kelly surf next year. So, win win?

    Backdoor's looking better and better.
Slater - J²F final? Or do the mermaids have other plans...

I like Mick, he's super nice and definitely a champion.
I thought his wave lacked a critical+deep drop and a post spit exit for a 9.7. The wave didn't really spit at all and was a bit small on the exit.
Above 9.5 should be deep, late, long, big exit, post spit exit, and dry except for spit.
I'm fine with him winning the title, but wish that wave was undoubtedly a 9.7. Mick probably does too.
