Well, based on the story, the dad tried to rescue the kid, to no avail.
Tragic for the family. Hideously tragic, actually.

Hard to say they were doing something they shouldn't have been. It's not like they were in a restricted area, just hanging out at the beach. Still, any body of fresh water in Florida has the possibility to have gators in it. They can move a hell of a lot faster than one might think. Never liked swimming in fresh water and you won't find me in any lakes or canals around here. I'll take my chances in the ocean. I sense that a lawsuite is imminent.

Bad on Disney if there was nothing posted about gators presence. Their guests are from all over the world and may not know about the fact that even at a controlled environment like Disney, gators can take up residence. Even in a man made "lake". ... A local small retention pond has gators in it. The business has a sign posted that gators may be present.

    Florida has some badass wildlife.

From what I read, there were signs posted. If the info was wrong, then I feel bad about my comment about people being some where they shouldn't be.

Yeah, Metard, FL is def on the radar right now!

There were "no swimming" signs posted. They also said there was a lifeguard nearby...who knows if that was for the lake or a nearby pool. Kid was splashing around in a foot of water when it happened, on a sandy man-made beach with benches and such. I'm not sure there was anything they could have done. Absolutely heartbreaking. I dont know if I could recover from something like that...

I posted this in the other thread, then saw this thread, I knew someone would post it...

2 Years old, what f'ing shame. I can't imagine seeing my baby getting eaten by a gator. People, listen up! While visiting or living in FL.... stay away from the Lakes, Lagoons, Everglades, etc., I surf amongst the sharks of CFL regularly and don't really give it much thought, but gators and crocs do not mess around, they eat anything in it's path, it's no joke. Don't let your kids or dogs play right by the edge of the water, they will sneak attack them and will be gone in seconds.

And if anybody thinks i'm joking, there have been like 4 stories of humans being eaten by gators in the past couple weeks alone. Different parts of FL too, they are EVERYWHERE. Be careful on the golf courses too, there are some behemoths out there that could eat a Volkswagon.

Very very tragic. Sending my positive vibes to the family. They need it. Good advice DP. Was thinking of making a FL trip in the near future but I'm staying away from that fresh water. I have an alligator head sitting in my crib to remind me...

I think I've been away from my safe space that is swellinfo too long as I am apprehensive to post my feelings. But definitely tragic and sad.

Hard to imagine a company like Disney could not see the risk in building a white sand beach with chairs and umbrellas next to a lake with gators. Very inviting for guests. This wasn't a marshy swamp where some people ended up doing something dumb like swimming in the water.
Might as well be setting up a buffet for any gators in that lake. And being that this is Florida, there are gators EVERYWHERE.
A few weeks ago a gator came up and chased a family off the beach nearby in the same lagoon.
The poor kid was just near the water's edge, which is where gators hunt.

Yeah man anytime, i'm not saying to not go fishing or something, just be smart and be aware near the waters edge. I would never ever swim in fresh water here, not never.

There were signs for no swimming, but nothing about gators. Man made sand beach by a disney resort, I can't really blame the father for not expecting this. I'm the first to call out Darwin award candidates but this doesn't look like one. Disney dropped the ball on this one. I just can't even imagine going through that.

    Looks pretty inviting, eh?

Yeah if there's no signs about Gators there then shame on Disney and they will be owned by this family
