I saw a guy on a beater out in the lineup with trunks tonight, no lie. This was in Maryland, crazy.

Saw the same but dude was on a SUP in 51F water at 7pm. He didn't stay out long. Looked stoked though.

Oh man that's cool! Wasn't that crazy? The water felt good but not that good.

I don't get how this is possible. I felt great in a 4/3 and after getting caught on the wrong side of the sandbar a couple of times I could have run in and switched to a 3/2. But to jump in almost naked takes something I no longer have. There were little kids taking cold showers after being in the water. This with a cold onshore wind and a setting sun for gods sake.

How this thread has 3 pages I have no idea. Why RI surfer claimed no gloves and 3/2 is fine then when on to ask if a 3/2 would cut it, I have no idea.

The water is 52 degrees, which is still technically hypothermic, a 3/2 will be fine if you can handle being cold. Don't be stupid, know your boundaries.

I surfed a 3/2 last week, today I put the 5mil back on to be warmers, I was hot as **** and will be only using the 3/2 from here on out.

I surfed yesterday in a 3/2, and the day before in a 4/3. The difference in maneuverability in the 3/2 was incredible, but I definitely got cold.

usually the water is a little warmer than low 50s this time of year but after a brutal winter its taking a lot longer.I don't see me trunkin it til early july.im in a 4/3 now with 5mil boots which is great,a 3/2 would surely cut my sesh in half being so cold.my 3/2 is pretty old,i rarely use it because when u can wear a 3/2 u can trunk it.maybe the newer ones are better,my 3/2 is atleast 6 yrs old and its still in a bag in my trunk from last summer.I don't care much for the 3/2 ,my winter suits are kept in good condition.im skinny so the cold water needs a few mil of rubber for me to deal wit

This makes all the difference in the world. I said I was out yesterday in a 3/2, but it's only on it's second season… got it last Fall. An old 3/2 might not cut it. Shoulda said that earlier...

age & condition of a suit makes all the difference...don't treat it nicely & it's old, it's not going to treat you nicely.

ditched even the 2mil gloves this morning...was great to feel the water on my hands again.

funny you said that, I did too. It was after I dropped in on a (big) closeout. Kicked out and when I paddled out I took 2 waves on the head. I was held under so long that I started seeing stars. That's saying a lot bc I train in the pool a few days a week.

image.jpg Played around today in a 3/2 at Salisbury. Older suit, wasn't too bad. Gloves and boots. Wish I wore a hood (shaved head doesn't retain heat well)

And yes, that means I am in fact now catching waves. I am now no longer a non surfer on a surf forum as of last week.

    Oh snap.

Last week was colder though. Maybe perception?

Pretty much what I was working with today. This was when I was leaving. A tad better earlier on. Gorgeous day though.

3/2 should be fine in 55 degree water. I have been going out with a 3/2 Billabong Foil
since the water was about 52 and was more than comfortable with suit, booties, gloves and hood.

Same. Just went out at sunrise this morning on LI in 53 degree weather with a 3/2, 3mm gloves and 5mm booties. Could've probably gotten away with 3mm booties. Not too bad at all.
