I doubt it. OC MD reads 45 in the water right now. That doesn't seem anywhere near 3/2 to me. I always play it safe in colder water. I would wait until almost 60 to shed a 4 mil. 4 mils right now really feel no different than my 3/2, so why bother. But then again, I also go from 3 mil to trunks. I wear a full suit most of the summer back east. Matter of fact, I pretty much do the same thing on both coasts. 3 mil until mid july or so. Morning water is cold.

the buoy is in the inlet...so the water reads 50s on the outgoing tide, 40s on the incoming.

I surfed mid town in a 3/2 today with 3mm gloves and 5mm booties. Plenty warm with zero wind and sun.

As long as the weather is warm like today, you should be good in a 3/2 with booties and gloves of course.

Do you think the hood could come off in the warm weather even if the water is still cold?

....I just dont wanna get surfers ear, that looks bad.

I understand one of the bouys is reading 52. I am just telling you that the water along the coast of MD is NOT 52. Correct me if I am wrong, but the ACTUAL water temp out there is mid to high 40s right?

Im not saying that it doesn't SAY its 52. I am just saying, its not 52 right? Its closer to 47-48... I just checked mulitple sources and they all read about 47. Strange...

So, was it really 52 out in the water today? I mean, that was a huge jump from 42 to 52 in a matter of 2 weeks. Seems a bit fast to me. I dunno though. if it felt 52, it was 52.

It felt cold to me tonight and I took down my hood and got an ice cream headache bad. I am still in a 5/4/3 and comfortable. Doubt I will be in a 3/2 before mid May. I can't wait to shed that rubber but a 3/2 now no matter what the air is seems crazy! You guys are way tougher than me :( . That inlet water rushing out of the bay can be warm as hell. Anyone ever have the pleasure of surfing the inlet at the end of a long hot summer day with a strong outgoing tide? That water on the beach can reach the mid eighties and feels like a bathtub.

there is no way you were in a 3/2 3 weeks ago. it was barely 38 at that point, and yea i know. if you go out now you will be fine in a 4/3 no hood, unless its big like tuesday. if you take 3 waves on the head you hurt, bad. goodluck in your 3/2. ha:cool:

Zach, Based on how it felt surfing two hours yesterday in a 3/2 no hood and 3mm. gloves and the buoy at ocean city inlet reading no lower than 51 on the incoming tide (ocean water rushing in) id say the water temp in the ocean is about 50. Its not unusual for the nearshore water temp to change 5+ degrees in a couple of weeks then stay the same for a while.

yes i was, i did not say i lasted long, about 45 min at a time, if its warm out its no biggie, oh and dude, when i take waves on the head, thats what a hood is for.
