Mitchell, I've often wondered about this but have no experience with the latter. Can you explain the difference?
I cant "explain" the difference, because I don't understand the theory. I'm talking about wider-tailed boards for softer waves, so LBCrew hit the nail on the head, but I don't know exactly why they seem to work better, at least me me in waves under head high and softer on the face. I just know that I've had two quads with the rear fins further back and closer into the stringer (away from the rails) and more parallel to the stringer that I didn't like...setups like this: To me they feel a LOT more like a thruster and stiffer turning in smaller waves that setups with the rears pushed forward, toed in, and all four fins are railward like this:
