Hi I have just recently went to a local surf shop and was told to get a 5' 10", quad fin, round nose fish. I am 5'3" and 130lbs. I usually surf anywhere from waist to overhead high surf. I have been using a 6'4" short board and it wasn't responsive at all. I am an intermediate surfer who is looking for a more responsive board. Is this the board for me?

    Thank you for your help!

the 5'10" RNF sounds like a good size. It will def be looser feeling (i guess thats what you mean by responsive) than the 6'4. When the surf gets legit overhead and hollow, you'll probably be back on the 6'4" but for summer weak waist - chest surf, its gonna be a hell of a lot more fun on the 5'10"

At 5'3 130lbs why dont you get a 5'5 lost rnf im 6'3 220 and i ride a 6'4 shortboard just like you and have ridden 5'10 fish and 5'10 retro fish you def. could go smaller even a 5'10 quad or something would work

Do you think the 5'10" Round nose fish will hold up in surf from head high to overhead because i don't have the 6'4" anymore. It was my friends.

(The 5'10" Round Nose Fish was based off of the Lost Round Nose Fish)

    Well...

i use my 5'10 quad fish in anything from knee to pretty much head high.....once it starts getting bigger than overhead i'll talke out my 6'3 performance board(al chemist) ....but the fish is great for a summer surfer if thats what you are

i'd get a thruster instead of a quad.... or maybe have someone put another fin plug in it so you can switch from quad to thruster... just my .02

It is actually a 5 fin setup but im planning on using it for a quad but i can switch to a thruster. Would i be better off with a thruster in the bigger surf?

dude your deffiently tallking about the same exact round nose fish that i have you could switch between quad and thruster... i got it at brave new world in point im pretty sure... the 5'10 rides nice and it can handle head high but if your looking to surf head i wouldnt get it but if your surfing jersey all the time then getit because the waves are rarely head-overhead besides winter and im sure you have other boards to ride on those days.. but i recromend it but i would go smaller if you could

quads are fun, but a thruster is a true perfomance set-up... make sure you keep spare fins with you so you can change it up on the beach...

and i'd definatly go smaller.... i know the east coast is pretty mushy, but 5'10" is HUGE... i'd go 5'7" (actually, ...Lost makes a 5'7" 5-fin )

i have a 5'10 quad. i wasnt too happy with how my old lost rnf held up. so lightly glassed. i would go with more of a retro style, heavy glassing larger swallow and such. i ride mine in head to overhead waves no problem. sometimes i need to jazz up the fins to a size larger tho when it gets big. really a great investment because you can ride it in anything

I surf a fish year round in top to bottom waves and slow rolling surf and I love it. They do have some limitations in bigger hollow waves but man what a glide. I am 6'1" 205lbs and ride a 6'0". I could go smaller.I think a 5'10 sounds too big for someone of your size. I have even heard people say mine isnt a real fish because it is 6' long :) I would go with a twin keel, really loose in turns but flies down the line with some pumping. Twin keels have more bite than twin fins with the smaller fins like they were in the early 80's. I have no trouble holding in the pocket or going verticle on the right wave. Visit this site, I will never buy another fish other than one shaped by this man http://zippifish.wordpress.com/zippifish-surfboards/ . Just look at my moniker :D .
