wow man really beautiful board and the price is MINT! My new years resolution was to not buy any more boards until I understood how to ride all the ones I already own... although this makes me want to break that!! Someone buy this board!
I don't think anybody could get ahold of *any* Mandala shape for that price. Do you really need the money that bad? Gaff is right, that thing may command Skip Frye $$$ someday soon.
How does one elevate to skip frye $$? Josh hall, Malcolm Campbell, or Manny going to make it there first? Saw a steve lis used fish for sale for $1,000 which sold in less than a day.
not feelin this board. not at all. i like this guy's shapes though...really cool designs that i would love to try out. i just don't live off a trust fund. let's say i had an unlimited budget for frivolous expenses such as a new mandala custom...i would take this board, trim off an inch from the width, draw the tail out into a round pin, adjust the fin placement and add a center (make it a quad/thruster setup). oh, my bad, i could just order that design from a local NJ shaper without all the uber hype.
Just my .02 cents. He's got kind of a "pedigree", I guess, if you can call it that. His shapes are very similar to Lis, Pavel, and Andreini with some modern flair and his own little signature quirks. They may never really catch on, but my personal opinion (probably worth .02 cents) is that he's got some great shapes and artistic talent. I've seen a lot of posts on the Campbell Bonzers, which are having a big resurgence right now (much like the keel fish did recently). Funny, I've never had one, but some of my bludz did when I was a young grom. The board had a reputation for "spinning out", and pretty much died when the Thruster appeared. Back then, the center fin was very low aspect (short)...maybe the reason they had that bad rep. Now, they all have higher-aspect center fins, and the "bonzer" fins have a somewhat different placement. People today are swearing by the Bonzer. Maybe they are just another "retro" fad. I don't know. Salt, I definitely feel ya. Just a question, you seem to be pretty savvy about this kind of stuff: if you wanted Brewer pintail, how many local shapers would you trust to be able to pull off an exact replica...or a decent one, for that matter? The whole trust fund thing, I ain't rich either. If I had a couple of grand to burn, I'd go for the Brewer. On my Rolling Rock budget, I'd grab the local shape. No question.
