Does anyone know if the XM swivel (ball and socket) leash joint can be replaced? It has the screws that a fin key fits on the top and bottom portion of the joint. I was wondering if it could come out and be replaced or if the leash is just toast. I broke two in a month's span. They were both about four-years old. Tried researching this everywhere to no avail. Let me know if you know. Jokes welcome as well...

XM leashes are for kooks, poor people, or the guys who are obliged to use them from their sponser... Do yourself a favor flave and use the ball and socket for anal beads on yourself and buy a dakine or creatures of lesuire

    bro, never 'fix' a leash
if its more than a yeare old and you actually surf more than once a monthe, you should get a new one
    just get a new one
your life MIGHT just depend on it one day

tried it, worked for a day. Had a XM 1 1/2 yrs. and had the same problem. Got a Dakine to see if it last longer.
XM broke at swivel in knee high surf, go figure. In years past I would get 4 or 5 years out of a leash and that's when I got to surf a lot more. New and imprived seems to equal disposable in a lot of cases.

I'm sorry, I meant zip ties.

If your life depends on a leash, you should NOT be surfing.

And then there's this... this I tend to agree with too, although having a leash has saved me a long swim on a BIG day a few times. I believe I could of made the swim in, but having that leash definitely made the situation not so bad.

I'd say more than 2 years old, but, yeah, just get a new one.

The fact the ball socket broke before the cord is surprising. Don't know where you can find new swivels...maybe a marine store (probably more trouble than it's worth)

    I agree barry, I agree
if you notice i have a giant qualifier in all caps: MIGHT
but having subpar equipment is a recipe for disaster, its best to cover the bases with top notch training...AND top notch equipment

Suck it up and go buy a brand new shiny leash, and don't forget to replace the string on your leash plug. I've had those break more often than the leash itself. Then you're scouring the weedline looking for old mono, or you have to cut off some of the tie on your board shorts.
