Check out this description of surfing from my oceanography textbook. They do have some good pics from mav's, rincon, and the wedge though. That's the most technical definition I have ever seen haha
It mentions "surfboard", so the standing on it part is implied. That is unless you are doing it at 1st Street, then actually standing up is optional for many of its current residents.
