I'm so fvcking stoked right now. Today is the day that my 8 year old son finally paddled into and caught a wave by himself. I've been pushing him in for a couple of summers and he has been a little sketched out about being out in the water in waves big enough to ride. Today started the same. I pushed him into a few and just let him enjoy himself with no pressure at all. Then I pushed him into one which he caught and rode for a ways. That wave kinda flattened out and he lay back down on the board and then it happened. A little bump came to him and instead of freaking out he turned and stroked into it and rode it all the way to the sand. Needless to say I was hooting and hollering like a madman. Truly one of the happiest moments of my life. He told me that it was one of his goals and that now he is a real surfer. Thanks for reading and share any stories of your own about the kids
Sometimes it's the waves, but lots of times it's who we share them with that makes a session awesome. Time to get a go pro dad.
Hell yes!!!!! My 8 year old is ready to catch his first "own" wave. Been pushing him into them for the last two summers but now it's his turn. Way to go man.
Thanks for the love guys. I was expecting to get shredded for posting something positive but I guess errbody love da kids.
I remember doing the same 20 years ago, and he is still my surfing buddy after all these years, I am truly lucky myself. Good luck and always keep him involved in the sport.
I wouldn't say "oh".... i'd say... "wow" and paddle away. I'm lucky I guess....he calls me to go surfing. BTW he is 29 yrs. old now and rips.
Good stuff. Congrats to you and your son. Wanna get my boy out there. He's quite a bit older, but it's never too late to start.
Lipsmacker, great story brah! Thanks for sharing. Very stoke-worthy and your celebration was more than appropriate. Here's to countless more sessions with your son!
Weeeeellllll, I can understand where that "kid" was coming from. My dad is like that but in other ways. I know when I'm older I'll have the same type of view as you guys like hanna.
