Halifax has a great party scene, too, and it's only maybe 50 minutes from L'town. I love the strong Irish/Scottish culture that thrives there. If you do some exploring, you can find empty point breaks, one after another, for miles, but plan on doing a lot of hiking and climbing up and down some pretty sketchy cliffs to get to the surf. Not as consistent as the Pacific coast, but a beautiful place with quality surf and few crowds by New Jersey standards.
