Hey guys, I recently purchased a 5'3 Firewire Baked Potato and LOVE it. I got the 5 fin future set up. The board is extremely wide in the tail and I have been using a quad fin set up. I dont think using a standard thruster set up would work well due to the width but I may be wrong. Does anyone know if adding the nub fin to a quad set up will help with a more stable rail to rail transfer in slightly larger surf? Has anyone used the nub fin before on that type of board? Just wondering what others have experienced.
Never used one on a Baked Potato before, but I've plugged one into a hpsb (thruster/quad convertible) that I've ridden as a quad without the Nub, so I got a good sense of the effect. What I feel it does is adds a touch of that directional stability you get with a thruster, but without as much drag through turns. In other words, you carry more speed through turns as a quad does, but you get a bit of that "centering" effect when going rail to rail, but not much.
