I started surfing late, when I was 16.i envy the guys that take their kids to the beach and have them surfing by 6yrs old.idk it makes me happy seeing a father take his little grom out,i never had that so.plus kids are much friendlier than 40yr olds

    I'm 33.
I started, like many, surfing in the summers when I was a kid. Started surfing hurricanes and N'easters when I got my license and a wetsuit. Started to figure out what I was doing around 19-20. Surfed every chance I got up until kids at 28. Started shaping when family responsibilities kept me from driving to the beach. Really started to figure out what was going on when I started riding the short, single fin boards that I shaped. Now my older son is in kindergarten and starting to surf in the summers.. and so the circle is unbroken.

It's funny to see how many of us are around the same age.. I didn't think it was the case.

34.....started surfing in 2nd grade in atlantic beach fl and surfed all the time until I was in 7th grade and then we moved to PA.....boooo......got caught up in all the **** that everyone older and wiser than you tells you not to, had daughter at nineteen, shotgun wedding yadayada.......Daughter was the best thing that ever happened to me and turned my life around but her mother not so much......surfed maybe a handful of times between 14 and about 24.......then got divorced and had some freedom to make my own decisions again......one of those decisions was to start surfing again......bought a board and wetsuit and its like I was never gone. Now when theres waves I jump in the car drive 3 hours surf for 3 or 4 hours and drive 3 hours home. People think Im crazy around here cuz most of them have never even smelled the salt in the air......its just so hard to explain to them cuz they just don't know or even know any other surfers.....but I know my bros on here would be right there with me......Man I love surfing

    36 yrs young

Started surfing late... I was 23 when I rode my first foam ball. Was instantly hooked. I grew up in NYC. Never thought I would ever surf. Bodyboarded Robert Moses and Jones beach. Until I followed a pick up truck with a long board in the back to Long Beach. When I got to the beach and actually saw a comunity of surfers. I was mesmerized. I knew then that I would raise my kids on the south shore of Long Island. Couple surf trips a couple of wetsuits. Many cold winters. And I Finally purchased a home 5min from the beach the year Superstorm Sandy hit. A month after my closing, "Major repairs and renovations". My house gets flooded. First floor gets gutted to the beams. Almost a yr of renovations. And this yr was my first full yr of enjoying the beach. We were blessed this yr. many good summer days of surfing. I work evenings. So my mornings are spent getting pitted when its good. Hop out of bed. Grab my gear and and I'm in the water in less than 10 min. The best part was this weekend... My 4 yr old daughter and 2 and a half yr old son rode their first waves with daddy this weekend. I just put them on the front of my board and rode some shories into the sand. Living the dream. I feel blessed.

Thanks SI for keeping me stoked.
