are you referring to wood to make a "älaia"style board? quick google search shows Paulownia and Koa wood being used. theres a place in media pa and a few other surrounding areas that carry it called tague lumber. htey have great customer service, if they dont have it in stock they can find it for you. give them a call. heres webpage with numbers and locations http://www.taguelumber.com/index.php?pID=30
You need to use Balsa wood, it really floats the best. You have to order the planks, plane them down, glue them that shape it out. Than seal it with a linseed oil, gum turpentine and bees wax. Its Pretty hard to ride at first. It takes a while to figure it out. But its goes so fast and slides out so easy.
i used douglas fir from lowes and it works great ask more questions and ill answer them if you want, ive made 3 alaias
paulownia is the tree that they are commonly made from. I just ordered some tree seeds, its a fast growing tree that offers lots of shade. Maybe in 15 yrs i will have something to mill. also does any one know if the lifeguards will give you the boot if you are surfing or bellyboarding one of these things if oc in the summer?- no fins on them.
you could probly get away with "bellyboarding" on one of them as long as its short and not shaped like a surfboard
how do you shape them once i get paulownia wood, all i need to do is thin it out and shape it or it's a whole complicated process?
