Yeah, mostly listened to WMMR and WYSP as well. WIOQ was a bit quirky but they sometimes did some cool stuff. Ah, the good old days of real radio stations. Now it's just big corporate stuff with rigid 200 song playlists and DJs that aren't even in the city the staion is in.

The first time I ever heard of Run DMC was when I was at Live Aid in Philadelphia. They were one of the earlier acts. It was like a hundred thousand white kids all going "What the fok is this?"

This was the Metallica record where I lost interest. Listen to "Fight Fire with Fire" off Ride the Lightning, then listen to "Enter Sandman". The magic was gone, replaced with production dollars, IMHO!

They play it like they really mean it:

I know what you mean, but IMO this was their last legit album, but I was young when it came out so what did I know? Such a shame what they turned into. Sell outs...

Ok...so I cal bullshyte on this whole tread

Who doesn't buy complete shyte for their first muzac

    My earliest memories are tapes:

Start with my uncle making me tapes from thriller & bad (age 5-6)

    Debbie Gibson (she was hot)
    Then on to Paula Abdul
Then Boyz to men, color me badd, guns n roses lies, & Michael Jackson dangerous (age 8-11)
There was also some shyte azz poison in ere, maybe even some motley crew and more shytey azz gnr w/use you ill 1&2

Then Wayne's world changed my life and the 90s exploded

    Pearl Jam - 10
Red hot chili peppers - blood sugar sex magik
    Nirvana - nevermind
    Soundgarden - badmotorfinger
    Tool - undertow (bmg special)
    Blind melon - ""
Beastie Boys - check your head

Then a reach to go deeper

Fugazi - in on the kill taker
Pixies - Doolittle (Columbia deal all the way)
    Cure - wish & disentigration
Rage against the machine - ""
    Green river
    Mudhoney
Primus - frizzle fry & pork soda
    Tad
The clash - all, especially London calling
Quicksand - slip & manic compression
    Rancid - lets go
    The smiths - all
    Sonic Youth - dirty
Sunny day real estate - diary
    Weezer - ""
Dinosaur JR - "" & where you been & green mind

Then there was the dark years...don't get me wrong, they are good bands and they were all good live (some them all) but their music is really uninteresting:

    Bad religion
    Nofx
Pennywise (the fokin worst...not even good live)
    The offspring
    The get up kids
    Jets to Brazil
    The weakerthans
    Saves the day

    And many more

Then there are the good, but not interesting
    Minor threat
    Black flag
    Born against
    Gorilla biscuits
    Youth of today
    Jawbreaker

    Then there was a reawakening

Modest mouse - lonesome crowded west & building something out of nothing
Karate - the bed is in the ocean
    The anniversary
Red hot chili peppers - californication
John Frusciantes - to record only water for 10 days
At the drive in - in/casino/out
The Mars Volta - deloused in the commatorium (the only fully good one they did)
    Eliot Smith - all
    Thao - all

Anyway...be more honest or at least interesting with your first buys and the trip
    you've take

First album I bought was Rolling Stones "Goats Head Soup" when I was about 10. I really liked the song Heartbreaker that was playing on the radio all the time.

I don't think I ever bought another Rolling Stones record, except Exile on Main Street. When I was 17 living in Ocean City, MD my roommate bought "Some Girls" that came out that summer and played it non-stop. Drove me NUTS! That song "Miss You" is seared into my memory in the worst possible way. Crushed any remaining tolerance for the Stones.

It was not an "album", but two 45's, instead. I had told my parents that I wanted a portable record player (I still have it, and it works like a charm). I knew they were giving it to me as a gift, because they later made inquiry as to which two songs were my favorites, at the time. The first one (which I still have) was:
