"Ryan Boarman, in his 20s, was admitted to hospital in the west of the holiday island Monday shortly after being attacked by the shark as he surfed at Balian beach"

Got that right Yank. Minimal cost to get insured for a few weeks, well worth it.

Was in Mexico a month ago for a week, cost me $54 to insure myself for 7 days. Covered up to $100k in hospital costs.

HAHA, I just get bored easily so I multi-task all day between work, SI, and reporting the news!

    Yep, well worth it.

Also purchased medevac insurance on one occasion. $148 for family coverage for 8 days. Probably would not have sprung for it if it was just me but wife was ~7 months pregnant and we were staying on a remote-ish outer island in the Bahamas.

Fortunately we never had to use the medevac but she did end up sick and in one of the gov clinics on NYE. She was hooked up to an IV for most of the night, various medications, etc. due to a stomach bug. Missed some fun waves the next day because of that...

On my way to Indo this summer .... Fortunately for this dude there are quality doctors over there (at least according to the guy I know who had his face put back together....)

Note to self: Do not surf Balian. Then again ... if you show up and there are perfect, slowly barreling head high A-frames, could you really resist?

Now, Reunion Island, I would take a pass on as a whole. I wonder how bad attack stats in Indo actually are. Wouldn't be surprised to see them underreporting injuries in the name of the almighty Rupiah.

+1. I purchased for my upcoming trip and it was $47. Medical (100k), Medical evacuation (250k), some accidental death (50k), luggage/baggage protection (1,500).

Probably a month. GF has another work conference in East Java, in late July, & doesn't have to be back here until late August. If things work out, we could return for a few months next year.

Last year she briefly surfed Canguu, & liked it a lot.

Personally, I'm apprehensive about the crowds, as it's the busiest time of the year. But I'm stoked to go to a legit wave paradise ... I know a lot of people never get to see Indo. Then again a lot of people have their priorities out of whack haha
