Just thought I'd share this quasi-surf blog that I write.

    An Unridden Season-GHIVE

    An Unridden Season-blogspot

-A word of caution: I'm not trying to be a heady surf journalist or anything like that. I'm not a journalism student, nor am I remotely trying to be. This is just something where I enjoy writing about time spent surfing, and a place to vent when I start shaking from not surfing. I also enjoy trying to take a few photos, but again, I'm not trying to do anything major here At all. I really just throw together this rudimentary thing together just for kicks. I figured since I enjoy writing it a little bit, maybe someone wouldn't mind reading it. Criticize if you like, that's why I'm sharing it here. I'm from Long Island, but currently go to University of Maryland.
    .
I've been updating both the GHIVE site as well as the Blogger site, not sure which one is better yet at this point. The content on both is the same so far. Well, thats it.

swellinfo'z duh sh%t. it's free and providez long term, accurate 4casts. surfline and wavewatch are ok, they're free reports and wavewatch haz decent longterm. ( they're all free, so whoo am i 2 complain?) but in the end, u hafta go with your own instinct and knowledge and 4get about 3rd party 4casts. i'm not gunna go blame online reeports and 4casts that i'm not payin' 4 if i git skunked.

never b optimistic on east coast. you're right, they change 4casts and windz hourly around here. it's unpredictible place ta surf. i don't git x-cited around here ne more until i actualleey c decent surf with my eyes. don't live on east coast 2 surf. u'll b dissappointed 80% of thu time after u git skunked. that's IF there'z actualleey surf. take up uther hobbeeyz. surf comez 2nd.

on uh side note, this haz bin thu worst seezun i've ever seen. worst 'cane seezun az well. just awful. i've taken up bingo and ping pong justa keep sane.

In terms of groundswell this season, yes - it has been absolutely pitiful. However, I have been scoring fun waves doing DP sessions for the past 6 or so weekends... I can't even count anymore I have been in so much. Sometimes it's only waist to stomach... sometimes chest to head -- either way though we have had PLENTY of fun days and if you haven't been surfing, you need to start exploring other parts of the island. 4-6ft barrels left and right out at Montauk yesterday. Last weekend we hit chest high tubes in central LI. Look at the swell direction and forecasted/current winds and find a spot on the Island that works best for the swell. You gotta work with what we get and don't give up on the days where your home break might be small and choppy cause there will always be a spot doing its thing.

Winter should bring plenty of groundswell - get your gear ready.
