No Brad, you've got the blinders on and is why so many others on here are giving you the business. I'm trying to be diplomatic and help you out here. Look, I agree that he shouldn't have paddled out next to the only person in the water, but again, it's a public beach, so he can if he wants to, it's just bad manners IMO.

You had the option to swallow your pride and paddle down the beach, and if you chose to do that, it doesn't make you a puss and it doesn't mean he wins, it just means you aren't in the mood for a paddle battle. Some days I'm in no mood for competition and only care to be alone. Those days I will paddle endlessly down the beach until i'm alone. If someone follows me, I will do whatever I have to do to shake them and have my own peak, even if it's not the best peak around. I would prefer a sh*tty peak of my own then a great peak that is getting dominated by others.

Other days, I am up for the challenge and I won't budge and I get my fair share, it's all a matter of preference that day. The decision is yours, but if you're going to dig your heels in and fight for the peak, then you HAVE to be at the PEAK, not the shoulder.

You can't get mad at a guy for being at the peak when you're on the shoulder, you just can't. He probably saw from the sand that you weren't in position and were missing waves so he knew he could do to you what he did. Again, not saying he's right, but I understand...

Aw damn, I been doing it wrong all these years? No one told me I was supposed to be on the shoulder. No wonder I've been getting the stink eye taking off on the peak all this time. Gosh I've ruined a lot of guys waves that way. Sorry.

look you guys can't go on in the real world with this attitude. I mean who the f will take you guys seriously if all you do is back down from a challenge, or never push back when confronted?

This was never intended to be an educational or instructional post but I'm starting to feel like Im the one trying to teach the lesson now.

by "push back when confronted" do you mean getting the FU and your Sh%$ thrown in the H2O? Come on man. You ever heard the term 1 step forward and 2 steps back? You posted it and we are trying to help you with your flawed perspective. YOU CAN'T SIT ON THE SHOULDER OF A PEAK AND PROCEED TO DROP IN ON SOMEONE!

You didn't even challenge him to the peak you just started whining and dropped in.

from a surfline article. another bunch of hooey found on a surfing site for guys that never surf I guess. funny how everyone except you are saying the same thing. does anyone else surf but you? do you think the guy who wrote this surfs? Does he survive in the real world?

Don't drop in on or snake your fellow surfer.
In other words, do not catch a wave once another surfer has claimed it by being in a deeper or more effective position at takeoff. Dropping in and snaking are the two most common ways in which we blow each other's fun in the surf. Both are usually caused by greed, and involve a ride-crippling interference by one surfer on another.

Snaking can be distinguished from dropping in, in that it's rarely accidental. The result, however, is less predictable, and if A is also a competent surfer, bad feelings and even arguments may occur. If you're being snaked repeatedly by a single surfer, don't react -- it's unlikely to be personal. Simply move to another area of the break, putting yourself and the snake out of each other's wave-catching rhythm. If you find yourself being persistently snaked by a range of surfers, you may be sitting too wide of the takeoff to fully claim the wave; paddle deeper and make your intention clearer.

look for the last friggin time, this guy would catch a wave, several of which I explicitly backed off, he would paddle back out, almost immediately turn around and take the next wave.
That's bull crap. I wasn't about let that happen. if the guy was just paddling back out and being somewhat friendly or amicable I would have behaved differently.

You all just need to stop posting to this thread. I was there, you guys were there only in your imaginations where you don't get your ass kicked. so just stop the hero kook bs stuff, its run its course.
