People have a right to believe in whatever they want to believe. I wouldn't say anyones religion "sucks" without being able to explain why it "sucks".

    take heart.
things aren't always what they seem to be.
social progress on this issue is hurdling forward.
just that few have the guts to own up to it.

Religion sucks--in psychiatry it is recognized that one of the early symptoms of schizophrenia is religiosity. That points to the fact that religious persons are insane, collectively or individually. Look at Islam--they are ALL nuts. The Pope?? He is nuts as well.

Well, all of these "rules" are just the basic be good to each other, don't kill, don't steal, don't F your friends girl, etc...stuff.

All of these "rules" would be necessary for your utopian no taxes and no government society...

Dude evolution doesn't 'plain away the existence of an invisible sky daddy. And there's more hope that an invisible sky daddy exists than there is that people can function and be civil without government and law and order.

If not, the Ambrose Harris's of the world would rape and shoot you and your wife and take your chickens.

But thanks to the sheriff, Ambrose Harris is in the state pen. I mean this dude killed a Chavez-type a few years ago in prison in less than ten seconds. Like the Motley Crue song Ten Seconds to Death

Some people just don't get that there are some wicked people out there.

see, if yall have reasons explaining why it sucks then people should understand. Even if someone doesnt understand your explanation, at least you actually have an explanation rather then mindlessly saying a religion sucks.

riley you miss the point as you cant imagine anything past your next fix

    the rules are fine
the idea of a ruler enforcing them is beat
voluntary agreement is the only way to true 'civilization'

but glad to know you need a firm law and order type to keep you in line, I guess you have the self control of a toddler?

and if someone came for my wife or chickens, I am pretty sure I could take care of that myself with out relying on poorly trained misanthropic jackasses with guns

when seconds count the police are only minutes away

    BS MIS

You call the police. I know that. You're a fraud, nagger. You snap-wise at people and then cower when they come at you.

Don't dare talk tough on here. Don't do it, MIS. Meet up with Jawn next time your home then.

Yeah dude, "VOLUNTARY AGREEMENT." There ya go............

Dude, you should stick to not talking or responding to me. I'm holding back too. I know aboot you MIS.

And honey, I break laws when I want to. I broke at least three laws yesterday. The government doesn't scare me.

Ax Ricky, Jail's awesome. I got my Grade 10 in there.

Right, I don't kill people just because it's against the law. There ya go.......

The funny thing is you think you are intelligent. If you were, you'd teach at a college on the mainland.....

YES, you have claimed that dependence on government is no good. You have said that every day you have been on here for the last year or two. You just exposed your complete hypocrisy because you have railed against the police a million times on here.

But you call them when you need them. Hey Zues, you just don't see it do you?

Dude, sounds like you are on acid with all your ideals and visions of a utopian society. Wake up dude, it ain't happening.

Yep, I'm a clown. You nailed it. Bravo.

    Right, I have no life.

Ah, the poor Associate Professor tied down with a wife and a child on the way. Spewing idealist BS on a surf predictin website, while tending his chickens.

Go teach a class. And try not to wise-off to choke mokes.

You'd meet Jawn because he called you out after I imagine you were being a wise arse, and of course you threatened to call the police.

And you are a joke who tells people he surfs huge waves, but I doubt it.

Plus, you're just an old man, who bodysurfs due to age and injuries. Steps are difficult to navigate, MIS. 10 St in OC is heavier than PT Panic, and I used to jump off the stairs back in the day at high tide on solid swells. The water was half way up there stairs. I didn't get hurt.

And I use Percs not trammies.

Dude you should go on MSW. I think you'd be big hit over there. And that's what you wanted here. But you ain't got the chops.

Because religion is a terrible force that has been directly responsible for some of the worst atrocities in human history. I couldn't care less about the purported truth of your beliefs; if you'd like to spend your life believing that 2+2=50, be my guest. However, when the beliefs of another person include the kinds of bigotry, insanity and cruelty that are strewn throughout the Christian bible (and, for that matter, nearly all sacred texts from all religions), it's immoral not to speak up.

And your reductionist view of religion, in which it's just a nuanced expression of the Golden Rule, just enables the real zealots who actually follow the letter of the bible. Treating others with kindness is a wonderful maxim to live by, but take it on its own, not with the heaps of bull**** that surround it in organized religion.

    And the clock strikes 13....

About to get in the water here, over the bay and the winds looking good ...

So long as your beliefs don't deprive a single individual of his or her human rights, who cares.

If the church adopted individual freedom, expansion of human rights for all, and an anti-war pacifist policy, I'd be there every day.

Instead they oppress gays, women, non believers, and frequenlty support nationalist-Zionist wars.

So I'm going surfing instead of kneeling behind a closeted banker while chanting ancient hymns. See you guys out there.

    Heil Poseidon!!

Judging by what so many people have said in the tread, it seems like a lot of people can't seem to separate "religion" from "people." Religion isn't crazy... people are. Religion isn't wicked... people are. There's nothing wrong with religion in and of itself, and I'd argue that humanity in general needs religion... they need something to teach them right from wrong, good from evil, and give them a code of ethics to live by. Because let's face it... a lot of people can't think for themselves and make the decision not to steal, cheat or take unfair advantage of somebody else on their own. But when you start blaming religion for the things that people have done, and not blaming the person who did it, you're not holding people directly accountable and responsible for their actions. Religion gives billions of people peace and hope. I say let them have it. It's a small minority of people who use religion as an excuse to do evil, and those are the ones that give billions a bad name.

Let them have it?? Sure, if they would only let non-believers be at peace. But they won't. Why?? Because they are crazy. One step away from schizophrenia. But even that, I don't mind. But they mind that I don't mind...on...and on...and on....they are nuts.
