Just got back from a little mid afternoon session here on long island. It wasn't anything too spectacular but the bigger sets were in the waist high range and not to many people in the water. I had allot of fun. Iv been getting out pretty often for barley rideable crap so it was just real nice to get out there and have some fun on a more substantial wave. I don't post on here often but I figured with all the negativity surrounding the "flat spell" and some other topics on here some positivity was in order. So did anyone else get out there and have some fun today?
Yeah dude, totally surprised me today. Solid 3 foot down in high-tide friendly South Jersey this morning. I actually had a good time, and I never have a good time....... Rippable with plenty of little dumpy bowls to pull into. Nice day......offshores........I was digging it. Dude, let the negativity become you.......embrace it. That's what you're supposed to do on the internet.
Got out this morning off Sandbridge/VA Beach while wife & kids were still in the sack. It was OK. Water was warm and a little cleaner than last week. Mostly longboard stuff, but I caught a few. Been transitioning from an old beat-up 8-6 beginner board (started last Sept) to a used 7 ft quad swallowtail I recently picked up, so it's been a learning curve. But I'm making progress and enjoying the board. Looking forward to Fall.
Fall is looking forward to you. Remember it's all aboot fun and not performance. Worrying aboot your last cutback makes you crazy like I am. Don't let that happen to you. And don't get the, " Did you see that....did you see that......ANYBODY see that???" syndrome where you worry if people saw your last off the lip..........that will drive you nuts too. Keep it fun and don't become insane like me.
chest high on hunting island today it was pretty amazing, was surprised that when i got there 20 were also there to... and pjb its not about fun its about who can be more aggro, who can bench more, ride the shortest board, make the best mean mug ect.
Thanks, PJB. I try keeping the fun aspect in mind, especially when I start getting flustered and can't seem to do anything right. Heck, I'm 58 and surfing. What do I have to whine about? I'm grateful to be able to get out on the water.
Heard it was chest high on IOP with the incoming tide this morn. Sad I missed that, but I can't complain.
Definetly, here in RI at the town beach, there were some plus sets of maybe chest high that I duck dove at high tide. Clean and sooo perfect. Best sesh I've had in like two months!
DosXX glad to see you are working to learn the new(ish) board def get some time on it as fall looms later Jim
west wind all day babyyyyyyyyyy. Great day of waves... time to pop some advil and watch some foooootballll
Got on it out here in central LI around 3:30pm-6:00pm... winds got a little nasty then calmed down and the sets were occ. stomach high with some punch. Good day to be out there and get back in the groove for when the bigger swells come. edit: Also was a pleasant surprise checking my phone after getting out of the water to see the Jets come away with the W.. Sundayfunday for sure
I love that beach. Had to work all day so could only check the cam. Looked small in the early morning, glad its picking up, going to check tomorrow evening, I hope it sticks around.
There's been a place on the eastern shore that's been very good all spring & all summer & always on weekends. I'll let you know next winter. Say no more Kokibarrels!
Don't worry, brother...got on it there today for a good 4 hours and it was fun as hell! Surfed all day yesterday, too...and lovin' it, besides taking the front of my board to the forehead...lol. Amped, what a beautiful weekend! Also pumped 'cause I'm moving down there for work on wed for the rest of the year! Hope everybody had fun! Yankee, one of these days we'll run into each other, how was CR?
100% with ya, bruddah, what a gorgeous wknd! Yest was glass at mid-tide, just ride after ride after ride what a day. Looked for the KokiB off-road board magic machine but you may have been down the line crankin' it up. CR was tremendous. With the exception of one stormy blown out afternoon sesh, the waves were consistent & fine. Was able to work on elements of my surfing, just trying to always improve the game. Did x8 sessions in 4 1/2 days; slept like a brick, I can tell you that. Plus, it is low season there until mid-November. Maybe 4 to 8 people out at any given time. Sublime solo-surf-trek, kinda like what the early 'pre-discovery' surfers must have felt like? Town had that deserted, rustic vibe to it, some businesses were shut down until the tourists return, the few souls that were there very friendly of course. Wish I coulda stayed until TurkeyDay. Really enjoyed the entire trip. And didn't even step on a sting ray...
Feeling the good vibes. It was 3' with slightly larger sets. Winds were offshore all day and the crowds were thinned out like Mr. Belding. It turned on a bit with the incoming tide. Sunny and perfect weather. Even the lifeguards were didn't care everyone surfed the peak that was right in front of the flags. #almostfalliswaybetterthansummer
Glad you scored! I know it's tough for you to get rides to the break. If that's a highlight sesh of the summer you're stoked!! Going to board or surf more this winter?? Go no bindings in pow & surf on snow!!
