last nght I was watchin shark tank on abc and it gave me an idea that struck me like lightning.i came up with a genius device/tool/whatever for surfing.its not some kook shyt to help u learn to surf or how to surf better,really only for a certain core of people.im not spilling my idea for anyone especially on the internet,and the only thing I have is an idea and a blueprint.im not trying to become a millionaire or anything,but when my idea turns into a product I garentee it will change surfing forever for the better. so if anyone on here has business experience or patent knowledge or whatever I need to get my idea into reality will greatly be appreciated.im planning on contacting quicksilver but not until I get a patent,and I don't think I can get a patent until I can manufacture a product.this isn't a system for the regular surfers,only for seasoned pros and when it does get revealed,people are going to think wow,how the phuk did u come up with that.if anybody actually owns a manufacturing plant that can help develop the system we could work something out.i do realize this is the internet on a surf forum,but hey u gotta start somewhere.if nobody knows anything which I wont be surprised,no hard feelings lol
I just know if I was to contact quik or billabong without having a patent they would definitely steal my idea and make millions they don't need im trying to help the surfing world.the world tour will be a much cooler place
yes you gotta apply for the patent, research it online. Make prototypes (don't give up because the first one sucks) look around for machine shops around your area and see if/how the can help making parts. Contact investors when prototype is marketable. The marketing thing is usually the hardest part, and it will cost you a bunch of money refining your product in most cases. Typically years down the road, divorced and broke, your product starts making money and before your dead youre a millionare. Don't give up because some ****head thinks it sucks. And tell your wife that if she really loves you she will stay with you through the hard times.
go to the patent office online and do a search. their search tools are a bit difficult to master as its so bare bones but you will find what you are looking for eventually. I was going to patent an action type of camera mount to use on ones body and saw it could be used for all action sports adventurers but abandoned the idea as the lawyers told me all they could try for was a partial patent and the costs were heading up towards 10,000 dollars. looking back I should have done it as similar items are in use today and I would have beaten them to the punch. But that being said, its no ez task and you will find that someone most likely has a patent or a partial patent on your idea...
I believe there's something called, poor man's patent. You basically put your drawing and a quick explanation of what it is in an envelope and mail it to yourself. Don't open it, it'll have a post date on it. If anyone copied you, you could show you had the idea first. I'm a machinist down here in s fl.
