I have an old beat up surf prescriptions that still fails to let me down on the best days. But the thing has become a real eyesore after over 10 years of use lol. Im thinking about trying to fix it up and I want to paint it too. Anyone ever paint a board? Im thinking just some kind of spray paint? maybe matted?

Thoroughly clean it and sand it well. This step is the most important part of the process. If you have access to a hplv gun, water down some good acrylic paint just enough to get it through the gun, and spray it twice, taping off the stringer with 1/4 tape. If using a rattle can, make sure it's acrylic, and for plastics. Top coat it with Krylon UV clear, two light coats.

Can I just paint over the stringer? This is just kinda like a quick fix so I can use it in public lol. I got the board when I was 17 and it was used then. Now im 29 and it's the only thing that floats me well in a 5 mil. It's just beat to ****. I buckled it about 10 years ago and got it fixed. But it's just such a great board for days like last tuesday. Need to keep it around. Im def gonna go nuts in the cleaning process.

I got blackout drunk once and spray painted the words "not good" on a board.

It looked like **** and eventually my friends chastised me so much I sanded it off.

    Does that count?

    Ok.

    Info that would be helpful.

What exactly do you want to do with it?

    Pics?

What do you mean "go nuts in the cleaning process?"

Do as LBC said if your going for a solid color..if you still wanna see your stinger just tape it off with painters tape..
If you wanna do some art work use posca paint markers..I've done a couple boards for people over the years and posca markers are best for this

at 10+ years of use, that board is toast. If it's such a magic board, you should take it to a local shaper and have it duplicated. Painting, although temporarily fun, is a waste of time/money and resources and a futile effort to postpone the inevitable...pull the plug, already!

Sure... if you want it to look like a car. You're painting it for the aesthetics. I'd say take the extra 5 minutes and $4 and tape off the stringer.

Lol at "pull the plug". Ya you're prob right. It's prob dunzo. But I dont really have the money to be getting anything new right now. Thought it'd be a fun project to work on. And I could at least salvage it a bit and save some money.

make sure to write a phrase or sentence on your board that makes absolutely no sense. it seems like it has meaning to others but it really doesn't

that's what all the cool kids are doing nowadays

    Pork fried rice

Copy a few Chinese symbols off a menu - they look really cool as tats, so they should be really cool on your board - maybe say "sweet n sour pork dumplings" or something. Tell your buds it says "Courage and Honor" or some other bull sh!t.

Got that right, brother. Glad to see you're not getting sucked into the disposable board mentality. Everybody's so focused on what's "new"... and putting so much money and energy into discarding things. Wouldn't it be great if we put as much energy and resources in "saving"... "restoring" what's old? Personally, I think you've got the right mindset.

Draw a clock a fly and an arrow with posca and write the following
    "Time flies like an arrow
    Fruit flies like a banana"
