If you find yourself surrounded by kooks with foam boards I hope u were reffering to Kooks on foam surfboards and not spongers in the line-up
im always an out of town surfer, since i dont live at the beach and usually travel to where its good. but i always respect locals who rip and know what they are doing. but... As soon as you act like an ass, an example would be catching a wave in a crowd then paddling right back out to catch one without letting anyone else catch a single one, then i get pissed. if i did something wrong i usually say my bad or hey man sorry about that. Then if you have the nerve to yell at me that i got in your way thats what throws me over the edge. ill wait on the sand ***** till i calm down or you get out and fight. if i get beat i get beat. i have no problem getting beat up. you learn from every experience. plus i like pain. makes you feel alive. like getting pounded on that biggest wave of the set.
Haha. Calm down you. Of course I meant kooks WITH FOAM TOP BOARDS. I respect the spongers. Although there really aren't any spongers in my neighborhood, I have been sharing spots up in La Jolla all winter with spongers. Most stand up guys won't surf a few of my favorite spots there due to the extremely shallow reef and inverted drops at low tide, so lately, its been me, a friend and like 5 spongers, getting shacked on dry reef in La Jolla... Its the only place I rock booties all year. Not sure why its so much safer to lay down on waves like that, but I would assume they get pounded too... when you drop in left and bottom turn, you look back at the wave face and the reef is like taller than you, like a foot from your arm drag. strange. Make you pull out quite a few times before commiting. P.S. didn't you hear that I am from OC MD. I think we all sponge there before we stand up. Its in our DNA or something. I sponged until I was like 13 or so....
But, not to knock them in anyway, but at all "Surf designated beaches" in San Diego county, bodyboarders are not allowed there. They are not considered in the county to be "surfers", so they must stay to swim zones. I guess its like that everywhere tho. Bodyboarders get run out of the OB pier line up everyday. Thats one thing no locals stand for. They make you get out for sure. Gotta go hit the cliffs or the jetty. Anyway, point being, if I ever reference a bodyboarder, I will ALWAYS use the terms: Sponger, Bodyboarder or someone who lays down. Any reference to foam boards or kooks without any of the above terms, I am referring to stand up surfers. I don't know of any bodyboarding kooks really, so if I ever find some, I will refer to them as "Kook Spongers" and they are not kooks because they are spongers, they will just be kooks who happen to be sponging... =)
