Whats with this Bullsh!t picture that comes up ? I hope this is not something new. I've used quite a few of the advertisers on this site and was very happy with what I got including some of the vacations. I just don't want to be forced to look at some crap before the site comes up. :(:(

it is super lame, but make no mistake, the internet (and this website) is a business. They get big money for those ads that you try to ignore on the side bars and now this subliminal message bs. IMHO they can all eat a 8=====>

advertising is what runs the internet. you're going to have to deal w/ it everywhere. sites like this one may not be free without it

This is the first background ad ever run on Swellinfo. It is for the Dew Tour Awards show, and will only run a few more days.

We definitely value your opinion, and our first priority is definitely to make sure the Swellinfo users are stoked.

I agree, the ad is a bit weird, so I think we will be more selective for any background ads in the future.

Question: If you had the option to view Swellinfo with zero ads by paying a reasonable membership fee, would you rather do that?

I don't mind paying a fee, but some of the ads are good. This one is kind of creepy/subliminal though.

Yeah the dude on the right looks like he just exhaled meth.

Answer: NO...there are plenty of free sites/tools online to figure out when I should hit the water.

i decided to make a change and show the ad only on the home page, so that way it not distracting when viewing the surf forecasts/reports.

Agree. The older than ~26 crowd here must all remember the days before internet forecasting (and reporting). Only 6-7 years ago, all we had was wetsand and surfline, which were both horribly inaccurate at the time (honestly, surfline still kinda sucks for east coast forecasts). The fact that I can come here and see a pretty solid forecast for 3-5 days out is simply incredible. To have this resource for free is a downright miracle. If we can keep that miracle going by putting some creepy ads up...who cares??? This one does NOT slow down the site by the way. My internet is slower than Rosie O'Donnell in the 100m dash, and the ad didn't slow it down enough to be noticeable.

Like Aguaholic said, lots of other free sites around, but this is a great one, and I personally would be sad to see it go. Even if I paid, I bet most people would not, and the site would lose its appeal. Let's be honest, the super legit folks here, the ones who I enjoy listening to and learning from, are generally cheap bastards like myself, and they probably won't stick around. I don't care two f@#$s about some yuppie from DC who drives down on July 4 with his wifey and 2 bic's strapped to his Mercedes SUV...but those are the types who will run the forums if we turn this into a pay site.

Just to be clear here, Swellinfo will always be free...

I was simply wondering, for those who get annoyed by ads, if they would prefer to pay a small fee to show zero ads. To be able to have that option available for those who really dont want to view the ads - Like Pandora does.
