You have to consider the particular situation. Often on the east coast our best conditions come after a front passes. The passage of the front brings offshore winds, clear skies, and no chance of rain. If there is no chance of rain, there is no point putting your board in a bag.

This one time, when I was frothing to go surfing, i threw my board into the back of my truck and bolted for the beach. I have 15min on the highway to get to the beach road. So I'm cruzin, doing 70 in the right lane, when all of a sudden, slam! I look in the rearview, and my board is dragging tail on asphalt, grinding away the wooden tail block of my pos kook stick. As I start slowing down to pull over, I realize there's an 18 wheeler grinding down on me. I'm like, oh sh!t, please don't fall out, please don't fall out. As I make my way over to the breakdown lane, I realize I'm heading straight for a bridge. And as I get over, the truck passes me and I'm now pulled over on the bridege. The highway bridge. The board is still there, teetoring on the tailgate with an inch of tail block filed to a new edge. I'm like, dayum, shoulda bagged the ole board today.

I got a truck too- and after a while if you don't use a board bag- the board gets all scratched up from the tail gate. I don't have a longboard bag- so on certain boards that are newer- I fold up a towel on the tail gate and one for the nose.

I also had the same experience while changing when I had a car with roof racks... It was the end of that board. Happened at island state beach park- and board landed on the rock parking lot. The rails where never the same

Never tried the stuff. Seen the commercials on TV where the guy paints the screen bottom of a rowboat. At least I think that's the same stuff.
Also, never tried changing inside a long board bag, whether standing up or crawling in it like a sleeping bag (might get run over in the parking lot!). ;)
