anyone ridden one? While I understand the concept a bit putting more foam on certain sides of the board depending on if your surfing backside or frontside. I always end up just going with different fin setups if I am surfing backside (thruster) and front side (quad) set up. So I guess I still don't get it. Anyone ridden one I am curious if it is all bull shit or has some validity.

I think there was a big threade about this like two weeks ago. Check? A lot of people were giving their opinion on them... I have no idea I’ve never Sarfed one.

ok ill check it out. just curious if anyone has surfed one and see what they thought. not sure on how good they would be in good conditions. almost feel they would be better in hybrid slash fish style conditions where speed is more important

They would be good going in one direction only, depending on the asymmetry. My opinion they are a waste of money.

I think and im not positive but the idea is they change the rails thickness depending on if your a regular foot or goofy going backside or regular. so in other words the foam on one side of the board is thicker or thinner depending on those variables. then again if I am surfing a left i just set my fins up different so i am not sold on the concept. I guess its been around since the late 60s and it really hasn't caught on unlike the fish design and the quad so yeah it probably is a waste of money. curious on someone's take who has surfed one. interesting concept to me but if waves were good i wouldn't think you would want the inconsistencies of the different rails and foam in certain areas.

Probably why you don't see them in shops or online.

Gotta figure resale will be nonexistent as well.

Experimental boards for experimental surfers. If you gotta have one, find a shaper who will make one on the cheap.

Your not wrong, but your not exactly right either. It's not just rail thickness. Rail thickness could be identical on both sides. It's about making the backside side more forgiving and the front side side more regular. Just Google it or YouTube it. Iv never ridden one. Don't have a desire too. But the concept is interesting.

By the way. You won't find a quad or thruster set up on a asymmetrical board. Usually you'll have two fins on one side, like a quad. And the other side will be one larger fin.

They are definitely odd. Like i said, iv never ridden one. Or even never saw one in person. But board design interests me. So iv done some looking into it. It's quite a "out of the box" concept. But interesting. They will essentially shape two diffrent boards and put them together. Shorter rail line on the backside then frontside. Two diffrent tail shapes. Purpose or thought is to make the backside more forgiving since your less sensitive on your heels than on your toes.

I don't see a need for it. Been surfing symmetrical boards forever, as most have. We all go backside just fine.

Our human bodies display symmetry. That alone should tell us asymmetrical boards are of limited function for humans.
Of, course, the exception is if one wants to be the "steward" of useless surfboards.......

Sometimes I prefer going backside to really crank turns and snaps off the lip.

Me too actually. We call LI the land of the lefts. Although in this past month there's been quite a few rights. So i don't know if it's my backhand is better just because it gets more practice or what. But i enjoy lefts for the exact reason you stated. Only thing i hate about backside is my pumping. Feels so awkward compared to my frontside. But the turns upin the lip feel better backside for sure
