This really is the stupidest thing one could say. If you loved food would you want to die by choking? Stop it.

Meh, it is a form of consolation, nothing more.
There are many more (e.g., "he/she is in a better place") equally silly, but blame not those that verbalize them, at least they are transmitting thoughts of sympathy.

def would prefer to die from surfing. and the dude Xander def loved it. prob more accurate saying than "in a better place". if it came down to the world ending in a day's notice, i'd try to get with family first, ocean second, getting laid third. but everyone's got their agenda. anyways, nothing wrong with saying "died doing what they loved" IMO. maybe you're just not good in dealing with death, which is the case for a lotta ppl for sure

Cuda, I think you have put your finger on it.. over time I've learned that expressing "I'm deeply sorry for your loss" and just being there carry much weight. If the person happens to be a person of faith, I will try at the appropriate time express words that encourage and give the hope that one's faith provides.

I suppose their will always be people that will put selfish needs before anything or anyone else in their lives.
    It's a pity, really.

lmao I guess this was directed at me because I posted on the zander treade saying he died doing what he loved.

that is not a bad way to die,any way u die is terrible, theres nothing easy about it,but id say id much rather drown or get eaten by a shark then get shot in some alley walking home from grocery shopping or hit by a drunk driver or be on life support for 3 months dieing from cancer.

theres a story of a ny surfer from the 80s I think, dont recall his name but he was a somebody down in Puerto Escondido,a real big wave charger before the jetskis and fame and he got shot in the face and killed from a drug dealer in ny.im sure if u could ask him he'd probably say he would've rather died surfing

Dying from cancer isn't all that bad - you get to be on a morphine drip and not have to worry about cops fvcking it up.....

I see what you're saying, but let's be serious here. I'd rather die surfing than choking.

death from surfing or being in the water would be caused by you drowning (aka choking to death)

I'd rather die instantly in a car crash on my way to/from work. Then it's just me, there's a body, and the fam gets a $40K bonus if I die lawfully operating a vehicle while wearing a seat belt. Fault doesn't matter. There's no insurance questions and everything's neat and tidy. I carry an enormous AD&D rider (because of surfing, but it works for other accidents too), so wife and kids will never have to work if I eat it. But an extra 40K never hurts.

I also get a BIG bonus if I die because of my work. So if we get an active shooter at my workplace, I'm gonna attack him. Then I die a hero, and the family cashes in. Getting shot is probably no fun, but if it's a headshot I guess I won't mind. Haha. Like literally.

I'd rather not drown while conscious, that sounds unpleasant. In general, if I die surfing, there's a chance my body wouldn't be recovered, which could cause some insurance headaches. Luckily I usually surf with at least one other dude.

I surely don't want to die from natural causes, unless it's when I'm a million years old, because then half the insurance money is gone. The family would still have enough, but it'd be way better if they fully cashed in when I fully check out.
