Yeah, I agree. But there are general guidelines to consider. And longboarding in general has taken a back seat for many years and is treated as a second class citizen in the world of pro/competetive surfing. So, I can see guys on the LB tour getting pissed and feeling like, why aren't we surfing some crazy big point, or some sick place to showcase out talents. I get that....

But not everywhere is a good choice for a contest. Everytime I see the ESA events being held around here, I just think, Ugh. I mean, I know you have to have them somewhere, and i Know it is the "ESA", but I would rather cancel a contest all together than watch a bunch of guys try and make a score in ankle high surf. With that being said, sure, there is great surf here sometimes, but not enough of it to justify a short event window to stop by and wait it out.

If the ASP LB comps are anything like the ASP SB comps, I can't really disagree with the general IDEA of not wanting a contest in a certain place. They are supposed to be hitting up the 10 best spots in the world. So, looking at it like that, I can understand where he MAY be coming from...

This is the same thing that happened back when the ASP was in New York. We all have opinions. Personally, I thought it was a bad idea from Jump street to have it there. Yes, they have the market. Yes, they can sell some ad space.... But they had a MUCH, MUCH better option. Its not like they were choosing between Atlantic City and Coastal NY. They had a choice between OB SF and NYC. They went with NYC... Sure, the contest was okay. They had a day of head high juice... But the contest as a whole was weak sauce. We all know it. So many heats were in just absolute gutless slop.... There were a few gems, so I am not saying it was a bust.

I am saying, when you are planning this stuff on a pro level, they should be holding these events in the BEST WAVES POSSIBLE. Sure, on it's best day, AC NJ could be considered world class. But there is not enough consistency there to justify it being a professional tour stop... I mean, if they HAVE to pick an EC spot, sure, AC NJ is a PERFECT choice... But if there are 10 other spots, in other countries or the west coast, and they are passing those choices up to do something in Jersey, I could see some guys on tour feeling like they are getting second class treatment....

That is not a shot at jersey, or the EC. Just trying to be realistic here. I would love to watch some great pro-/am contests in my area, but if I heard anything on a large scale was coming here, I would just say, WTF are you guys doing?

I think his comments should have come with more of an explanation. But that is social media... You can say what you want, short and sweet and people can take it for what it's worth....

You should have seen the responses to Kelly when he posted his "Hands Up Don't Shoot" message on instagram. It was him, at Chopes, in a huge standup barrel doing the don't shoot pose. To say the least, he got blown up pretty bad by his followers. It's a whole lot different when you have a few hundreds thousand people that actually care what you think.

if they had a 10 day waiting period in mid sept, they would score, 1/10 chance of being skunked Id say

but they are welcome to go elsewhere, and honestly, f*ck Joel Tutor and the horse he rode in on.

    my 2 cents

Some good points there, Zach. I cannot imagine getting all flamed up with Slater's statements or Joel's. Big deal. It's tough to have a contest here..I am looking at it right now, I've looked at it week ago same time. You get the point. Someone in another thread (the 'get my step up- it's coming!' thread) just pointed out how Pacific is on M. I would rather watch a competition on WC- does not mean that there shouldn't be any here, just that it is so hard to fall in the window.
Joel is opinionated as ****. It's okay, his choice. He must have really gotten into BJJ just to impose his will more. I think his stance is kinda alright.
That being said, I've probably gotten my best jersey waves there; just how it worked out. Very few out and it the crowd was good. Little much, but hey, it's NJ!
And I kinda like that Joel wanted LB competitions to be more than just f!@#ing nose riding forever.

So you guys are butthurt somebody who gets paid to said you have sh!tty waves? Maybe you do? I've never been to the east coast, doubt i ever will.

Saying the place is garbage for the contest is probably true. Especially for the style of surfing you expect from tudor and his following/crew. He's a classic longboarder, long peeling waves are what they need to do their thing properly. Why do you think malibu was the gold standard for waves in the days of real longboarding?

Knowing people who have met tudor and who actually know him, i think he's a chill dude. I'd hang with him any day. And would listen to his opinion over any of yours.

    Tudor's carefully constructed 'image' is that of a cooler-than-thou, totally-hip, better-surfer-than-you, throwback-dood, gonna-say-anything-I wanna, screw-you-all.

Really....? Yah. Really. Uh, he's not exactly Dora here, buoys. Much as he'd wannabe.

Ergo, he gets it back in spades with online vitriol.

That's the problem with the whole social media thing: douche-canoes posing as planetary experts have no accountability for the stuff they say. They're like the John McEnroes of the planet without having to face any incoming. And, bizarrely, American corps pay douche-canoes like Tudor for his carefully constructed analElliptical poseur yah yah.

Hey who cares about DiiiickTudor. Just don't buy his boards, don't watch his masturbatory Tudor movies & do hope that he calls your local break a piece of shiiiite soon, too, so you have less of the interlopers and more locals free to surf it up.

Joel comes off as a douche in social media. If he isn't bashing a surf spot, he's egging someone to get in a jiujitsu fight with him (referencing K Slaters IG post last winter).

Not sure if thats how he really is in person

Ill take that catch weight challenge he can do all the jiu jitsu he wants but striking, wrestling and judo are allowed and the fight has to be bare knuckle on the AC boardwalk, dirty jersey style. My manager is awaiting a response from Tudors camp. If im not high profile enough I think Shred might want in on this when he gets out.
