So it goes with the Rockefellers, too. After wreaking havoc upon the earth and extracting his wealth from the bodies of workers here and abroad, they make some hospitals and universities to assuage themselves of their guilt and improve public relations for the company. Gates ain't half as evil but lets not forget what Microsoft did to many other small garage started companies. Decimate them through acquisition and patent wars. You are correct about the older generation having the money though. And political office, and the board rooms. They need to die and relinquish their ham-fisted grip on our economy. Thankfully they are nearing old age and there is hope. Adios assholes. By the way, great ideas on here. Investing as a means of changing the world? Keep drinking the Kool-Aid boys, only people elbow-deep in the as*hole of capitalism would throw that hackneyed idea out there. But most of us were sh*t out of that very hole. How about we rescind every tax-breaks/loopholes for the oil corporations and extend them to businesses like Peajays? ('Thanks Obama!')
Sounds as if you are quite bitter. If you think capitalism sucks, which it can at times, then try living in North Korea for a few years. You can pal up with their President for life and cry on his shoulders. And don't forget to say "hello" to that jackass basketball player that thinks they are pals already!! <grin> BTW, I am with you about the subsidies for oil corporations; they should be stopped. But not to continue your Welfare check.
77 percent of those 600 interviewed support it lol what type of propaganda is that ****. they probably interviewed people in columbia not the ones that live on the coast.
This makes me laugh because a few years back pumpmaster said almost the same thing to me. I was kind of trolling at the time...
Too young to be bitter buddy, I just don't partake in the same illusions as you. Your insinuation that I consider North Korea as an alternative to the USA? That's like me saying, hey kids, if you think your abusive parents are annoying, try getting imprisoned and raped by Ariel Castro for seven years. The point remains, people deserve better, in a nation supposedly founded on the inalienable rights of man. I never said capitalism sucks. I just want you to consider the picture at large, outside of your yearly ROI's. That picture includes many nations where citizens are luckier to be born than the USA. We're number 16, according to the Economist Intelligence Institute's Quality of Life Index. People love talking sh*t about economics, resources, and the government, but they don't like actually examining the issues. That goes for policy makers and basketball players, and all of the SI pundits.
Yes, he does. His best is PARCC tests to identify what our kids should know especially coming from someone who didn't do well in school. Thinking for yourself will not exist soon enough.
I'd like to see a quality of life index that takes beaches and waves as a major factor so it is useful to us surfing pundits. Costa Rica would be way up the list, Switzerland not so much, you think?
Don't be throwing that out there. You commie. Don't speak out and use your rights. Just keep letting them shove that big red white and blue **** up your ass.
We do not know each other. I assure you, I do consider all the issues. ROI is not my main thrust in life, but it certainly contributes to anything Economist Intelligence Institute says is important. What they list as important, does not necessarily match what any individual feels is important. Each one of us can take issues with their list. But like most leftist organizations, they have paternalistic feelings, "we know better". Just like Jonathan Gruber, "the American population is stupid". I will decide for myself, and encourage others to decide for themselves, on what constitutes a better "quality of life". As for "people deserve better', yes, but ONLY if they earn it. I do earn my wages, and I make NO apologies for it. Neither should anyone apologize for either their successes or failures. Many misconstrue "inalienable rights of man". All governments do; no exception.
Good link Slashdog. The USA has room for improvement, and that fact that we've been the world's policeman has a toll on our QoL. A quick look at that list indicates that most that score above us have benefited from their isolationism facilitated somewhat by our protection. Still, capitalism and our democratic republic has been a good combination, although greed and other evils common to man (which can defile/corrupt any and all forms of government) have caused many of the problems and hindrances to dealing with our energy and environmental problems, among other issues. A lot of good ideas have been discussed. The long pole in the tent is how to reduce the requirement on oil for energy. Summarizing what has been said, electric cars do not provide a solution unless a non-oil means to replace the currently capacity generated by oil. I think some of the ideas discussed have potential, i.e., leveraging solar, winds, and sea currents. BTW, a calculation (not so simple it turns out .. many studies http://tethys.pnnl.gov/stressor/energy-removal ) may provide the answer as to if using the gulf stream would effect the weather. I think we would draw out a small /insignificant amount (here's a site that discusses current technology: http://www.boem.gov/Renewable-Energy-Program/Renewable-Energy-Guide/Ocean-Current-Energy.aspx. The sad things is that not much has happened over 40 years since our first energy crisis. I remember being a teenager and having "odd/even number license plate" rationing. I do see signs that we are slowly moving in the right direction. All of these things will cost money to develop. Some of you younger guys deciding on a career path could consider equipping yourselves to get into one of these renewable energy fields. I would think the opportunities would be expanding, as policies are changing (& need to change) to facilitate development. And maybe, some of the older fat cats with cash may lay hold of the vision to help develop and provide renewable energy for generations to come. Necessity is the mother of invention. The environmental and political consequences of oil are making the need for alternatives clearer.
Dude It just hit me !!!!! We should make everything run on cannibus and THC oil, the only downfall or side affect is everyone will be Really Happy!!!!!!!!!
Dude, Dupont squashed this decades ago. Industrial Hemp was well on its way before the synthetic stuff came along and the Corpos got in the pockets of the gov't. One of the early corruptions in the corp/gov't ideals!
