I've been doing my research and have been there twice. Once all the way from Tamirindo to Playa Matapolo across the bay from Pavones, but I don't feel like two weeks was enough time to really get a feel for the central coast even though we stopped in Dominical for a few days. The other trip I went and stayed in Playa Langosta, just outside of Tamirindo and surfed that area from Avellenes to Playa Grande. I'm going on a trip there the first week in august and from what i've read the central and south coasts are the places to go that time of year due to the south swells. Any off the beaten path places anyone's been to? Should I think about revisiting the Dominical area? I really loved it there. What are some of the other spots right around there? P.S.......Trying to stay away from Hermosa.

I was there last June. I loved Dominical but almost got arrested I would still go back there and stay a while. Domincalito is just south of there and has pretty good surf... Blah to hermosa and Jaco. Check out Malpais and Montezuma if you get to the nicoya Montezuma doesnt really have surf to speak of but its got amazing waterfalls if your into hiking.

we are a private resort in Esterillos. it is located about 15 min south of Hermosa. i read you said you werent into Hermosa (totally understandable) but if your passing through and need a place to stay keep us in mind. we have 3 houses for rent, smallest being a studio and largest that sleeps up to 8. the community is gated as well as the property. we are generally slow in the summer so odds are you would have the whole proprty to yourself, for cheap. check out our website, facebook and myspace too. pura vida.

my friend and I are actually heading to costa rica same time, like last week in july to first week of august. Do you recommend any place where there are all inclusive resorts, we are going with our gf and they refuse to go unless we stay in an all inclusive lol. And we dont mind having to rent a car to get out of the resort and get to surf spots, but dont want to drive to far.

If your heading to Costa Rica in late July early August, your going at great time for surf even though its the rainy season. The southern hemi swells are in full swing at that time. My wife and I own a condo in Jaco if your interested. Check out the rental section of Swell Info. The name is Costa Linda and they have a full conceiger service. They will set up any kind of tour you want (zip line, fishing, volcano, horseback riding, etc...) They will even hook you up with a rental car agency. Our unit is a 2 bedroom 2 bath that sleeps 5 - 6. It is only 2 years old and is located at the north endo of Jaco 2 blocks off the beach. There is good surf at the end of the street which takes 2 minutes to walk. Jaco is modernized with everything you need, grocery stores, ATM's, gas station, restaurants, etc.. Just a 5 minute car ride to the south is Hermosa which is one of the most consistent spots in the world where the 2009 ISA surfing games were held. If you want the off beaten path, head further south to Esterillos and Bejuco. Plenty of beachbreak tubes, a couple of reefs, and a few rivermouths. Everything you need just a short 15 - 20 minute ride by car. If you have any questions just send me a message. We love Costa Rica and are willing to help people any way we can so they can enjoy this beautiful country. By the way the new highway was just completed in February which cuts the driving time from San Jose from 2 1/2 hours to 45 minutes.

Let me know if you have any questions!

    Pura Vida,

    Jon
