The first two years I surfed and couldn't make out faces or anything else really except colors. SUPs looked like giant wasps. Landmarks were a total blur. Then I got prescription Sea Specs. What a huge difference. Can see facial expressions, waves, subtle things in the water, people on the beach throwing my stuff into the ocean etc.

Get yourself some contact lenses, you won't believe the difference, if your eyes can't tolerate the lenses, go for the Rx Sea Specs. Plus, you being a male, I would've thought you would want to see some of the girls on the beach, no?

    lol. perfect comedic timing.

yeah, I surfed for decades with blurry vision (nearsighted really bad). I always had contacts lying around I used on special occasions...but I was too stupid to figure out to use them while I surfed. Don't remember when it dawned on my to try them, but it was definitely a Eureka! moment

There's a guy at my local I befriended about 20 years ago. I wondered why I was always the first to say hi and why he never commented on my good rides (I always praised his). Couple years ago, discovered he's blind as I am. I told him contacts would revolutionize his surfing world...then he admitted he was afraid of contacts (this guy is a cop). After I kept badgering him for years, he finally conquered his fear and got contacts.

contacts work good, just be smart dont use them if they are hurting or irritating in the water

I've been surfing a lot in the past 2 years, (spending a lot more time in the ocean then I did before) and my eyesight went downhill very quickly from fried eyes.

Agree with others have been wearing contacts for 30 years in the water. I do not open my eyes under water but surf in cloudy water so no big deal. I too lost one on a big day when get whacked in the side of the head by a lip. But given that was only once not bad odds. It was a ***** getting in thru the rocks. I use to carry a spare in my trunks after that when in that spot

Probably has more to do with genetics than it does from spending more time in the ocean. I had 20/16 vision all the way up until I was prob about 18-19. By time I was 21 I needed glasses suddenly and I wasn't spending too much time in the ocean at that time of my life, not like I do now. Just happens.

like I said I can see fine, just not distance.i don't remember taking a vision test for driving.my brother wears glasses and my mother wears glasses so I guess its genetic.its just hard to read from a distance,i personally don't think I need glasses, but that's what the dr. said along time ago, that you will need glasses in the future

That's probably true. salt water and sun 4 times a week probably doesnt help too much though.
