I've never worn a wetsuit and have no knowledge of them. I freeze in the summer. I wear a thermal rash guard when the waters 85. With that in mind, what mil suit should I get for 65 degree temps? I'm hoping to find a thick 3/2 thats long sleeve (I've got tattoos gotta protect them with sleeves). Another thing I was wondering, what are you supposed to wear underneath? I'll post more questions as I think of them. Thanks for the help.
I don't think a dry suit is necessary. Hell, maybe. I'm just s skinny Florida bastard. Can't deal with the cold.
I wetsuit should fit you like your wearing a pair of sweatpants,Not too tight and not too lose.Try them on before you buy.A medium from Oneill might fit you differently then Ripcurl. You can wear a rashguard underneath or nothing.I usually wear a rashguard with my 5/4/3 just so its easier for me to slide into it.Try not to skimp on price.Usually you get what you pay for.
Everyone's different but for me 65 to 60 a 3/2 .Under 60 a 4/3.Under 50 a 5/4/3.Take my buddy for example he can surf in 50 degree water and be fine with a 3/2.My 3/2 isnt that warm thats why I switch to my 4/3 but under 60 but most people can go farther with their 3/2 .It all depends on air temp, wind chill and length of your session as well.As for board shorts under your suit, thats a matter of choice.Just don't tell anyone if you wear em.
Wet suit Just keep in mind you get what you pay for. Remember you are in florida. anything over a 3/2 is overkill and will be too hot for most the winter, last winter was an exception with extremely low temps which was rare. Get a good suit with sealed seams and your should be fine. Ive worn a 4/3 p.o.s cheapo and was half as warm as a 2/2 with sealed seams and good neo. technology in wetsuits these days are insane. I recommend any psycho series from oneil or xcel drylock. you can go as thin as you want and still be warm with a top of the line suit in FL. I am lightweight as well only weighin 135 and wear a 2/2 shortsleeve 90 percent of the time. Also the stretch factor in top of the line suits is insane. you can almost size down and be comfortable with the extra warmth of a small suit (ie. flushing) and have more flex than cheap'os
Thanks everyone. I went with the 3/2 ripcurl e-bomb back zip. This is my first wetsuit so giving a review would be talking out of my ass but I'll let everyone know how it is.
why not Have it all we have every temperature change here and i have noticed i want to be comfortable on any given day so i collect stuff i need along the way and i end having a nice wardrobe and also there will always be a bud who was not on his game enuff to bring what he really needed for that day and its always aloha to hook them up coz their your friends and you know they're good for it.also i suggest you nail thrift shops they do get some pretty neat if not back dated stuff from time to time in the form of dive suits and whatnots for the water for like nothing. while your waiting to figure out what exactly it is you need for your personal preference you should nab whatever you can to do the job i just like having I.C.E. stuff on hand( In Case of Emergency )
you know what would be gnarly A. don't buy any wetsuit, the few of us that surf in the winter enjoy the thinned out lineups. OR B. get one of those old fashioned dive suits with the metal helmet that has portals on it Either option would be preferable, and would be sure to keep you warm.
