Honestly D? It wasn’t nearly as painful as it looks... until later when they say your body “ghosts” the limb and man oh man for a thumb that didn’t exist anymore it hurt like hell.

The fin on the other hand, well that hurt like I gave birth to Nopantslance

I’d rather lose a piece of my thumb.

How do they work? Are they flexible or breakaway... I’m just thinking of how flexible fins can change the game a bit. Good info

Neither. They have a semi-flexible rubber edge that won't slice into your flesh and available in varying degrees of stiffness as I recall. I put a set on one of my boarts after I experienced an unwanted foot/fin interaction some time ago that knocked the fin clean out of the board and gave me a nice scar. How do they perform? Hard to say as I haven't surfed that boart in some time and I'm such a skillz deficient surfer that you could probably put a slice of pizza in the fin box and I wouldn't know the difference.

well if you can't tell the difference then they must work okay? I immediately reckoned that surfing with a soft fin would be like having sex with a flaccid bone. But I digress.

they look like a BLEF with a molded whalecum edge

Your in the same bus as me Val - but I’ve actally learnt me some infomation over the course about fin flex and whether I turn into a nice rail or do a pirouette off the board as it goes along its merry way ... typically to come back and wack me somewhere painful

As I said, I haven't surfed that boart in a while. It was my first non-foamie boart, a 7 foot Chinese pop out. After that incident I was always kinda scared of that boart and so it has collected dust as I moved on to other vehicles of conveyance. I really should get back to it some time but waves are so few and far between here that I tend to just stay with what I know will work well.

And yeah, the ProTecks do have that Blefff thing going on. Not sure what substance the edge is made of.

Got a set when my daughter was learning to surf so she wouldn't scar her legs up or cut her head open in a tumble. They work good, look like a BLEFF sealed with whale jizz, and I would recommend them to all folks learning.

A bit too soft and flexy, they will slow you down in fast surf. Maybe just enough to get pitted. But you won't make it out.

I got a deep muscle bruise on the back / side of my calf from smacking it on the rail of my boart. It happened yesterday from a blown takeoff on a closeout. Felt like someone took a bat to me leg. Hurts to walk but didn’t feel it when I was in the water today. Funny how that works.

Yeah its deep man, might take a couple days but it’s gonna surface. Probably purple followed by greenish yellow.

I also have a small hole on the back of my foot / heel from smacking it on a piece of exposed reef a couple days ago. I didn’t even know I was bleeding till I got out of the water and saw it when showering off lol

I have one in my bag of tricks - for seats belts in wrecked automobiles... would probably work on stuck leashes too
    Nice work
