So yesterday, 7-25....there was a storm that rolled through late afternoon.............I went to Belmar and hopped on the beach......it looked like a dump. The beachgoers got sprinkled on and abandoned their gear. Garbage everywhere, seagulls tearing apart bags, and beach chairs spread all over. It's insane how many people dont care about the beach. So over my walk from 5th ave down to 10th ave I took it upon myself to clean up. High tide was coming in and beach chairs were gonna become driftwood........... The few that were on the beach were giving me the "what is HE doing?" look....... I dont get payed to be the garbage man, but hell, I dont want to catch waves with Doritos bags, and foam coolers (people still buy those!?) When are people gonna start caring?
I agree with you 100 percent. Sat I was walking up the beach in Belmar around 6 o'clock and you could see where people had been sitting by the piles of garbage they left. The same thing, the tide was coming in and it was all getting washed into the ocean. My friend told me as we were looking at all this crap about how spring lake doesn't let you have food on the beach you have to leave your cooler on the boardwalk. As much as it sucks having restrictions on the beach all summer I think its a good idea. Id gladdly leave my cooler on the boardwalk to not see all that crap be washed into the ocean every nice day in the summer.
Yeah I see that alot too what its the worse part is they bury soda cans, food and snack bag and Cig buts in the sand. Wildwood does a great job keeping the beaches clean with the sand rake everyday and having plenty of trash and recycle cand on the beach and they have people that come by and empty them as needed
Spring Lake is awesome. They don't let you bring food or drink (water bottles are allowed) on the beach. You have to leave you cooler with the badge checker. Really minimizes the garbage on the beach.
wow thats the first I ever heard of that . Sounds like a really solid idea. But kids get hungery and thirsty at the beach and who wants to hike up the the cooler checker to get food of there kids out of it eat it then hike back down to the beach ? I remeber one time I was talking towards the water and I steped in a pile of cig but , soda can , and a buch of watermelon skins. It was totally gross and it left me with a disaponted feeling towards people
Perhaps it has to do with the beach staff as well. I was out early Thursday morning, 5:30-7...and the rake was still going in Belmar, and there was a small crew of kids sweeping off the boardwalk........but those cans get overfilled so quick, and so what happens people just pile the garbage on the spilled garbage. I remember those Wildwood days with the fam in the early 90's..............staying at the Pier 6600, clean beaches, in the water all day, coming in for lunch.............. I hope to share that someday with my kids......
Belmar sounds like it's turning into Atlantic City. They do keep the beaches really clean in Wildwood considering all the vendors, and families on the beach bringing all kinds of stuff with them.
agreed !! if you havent noticed people that leave the trash are the tourists.. locals clean up and have R E S P E C T for the ocean
You guys are complaining about Belmar. What do you expect with all the north Jersey and NY guidos hanging out there?? They don't give a sh!t about the beach as long as they can get their tan on for D'Jais. Deal is bad too since they don't rake the beaches. I walked up and down two blocks on Deal one day and picked up 4 beer bottles and 7 water bottles. Many people are just thoughtless a$$holes whether you're at the beach or not. I mean who litters period???
WOW!...someone mentioned Pier 6600. That brings back memories of riding my bike down there with thee board under my arm. That beach grill shack was a godsend back then. No matter where I go I always find myself picking a few bottles, cans, etc. up on my way back from the water. It's always the tourists/bennys that don;t care.
They leave trash all over the beach down here (NC), too. I've been digging buried beer cans out of the sand, picking up bags full of cigarette butts, and walking up and down the beach picking up various pieces of plastic crap and styrofoam cups. And it ain't just the summer tourists. Ever since I've moved down here, I've noticed that after the fall fishing season starts the beach is as trashed as ever with all the crap that fishermen leave behind.
Yeah they actually do keep the beaches really clean there. They have alot of trash cans and people coming by almost every hours to check on them and empty as needed. The only vendor on the beach is the Ice Cream man but on the street there are guys selling hot dogs and pretzles. When I get to the beach at like 6am they have the sand rake coming the beach for trash they do the whole beach and they got people checking/ emptying trash cans from the night before. You would think they are prepeing for a big event but its just another day at the beach
It's the worst when you see a bunch of trash on the beach all piled up nice and neat not even 10 yards away from the nearest trash can. Among all the garbage you can make out a dirty diaper all balled and taped together. Knowing, later, you may be surfing with it...
To all of you who pick up trash on the beach and dispose of it properly, even if its only 1 item, THANKYOU, and please continue. Good deeds such as these come back to you.
They should have those Class 1 cops patrol the beach during times like that or closing... ticket them for littering.
I would like to drop a duece on the hood of their cars!!! It blows me away that someone could seriously just leave their crap on the beach like it was nothing! I was always taught, "Take out, what you take in". And, and the burried cans hurt like a b_tch when you step on them!
