Has anyone owned or worked a beach stand before. I am going to buy one with my cousin. Wanted to know how people liked it.

    Hey,
I worked a beach stand two summers ago in ocmd. Its all about location so make sure you have a high volume/ touristy beach. It's also a good idea to buy two adjacent stands so you can really monopolize the beach and up your prices.

It's been our family business for 36 years in OC. What town are you talking about? OC had the bids in December so your too late for 08. I'm not sure about DE beaches though. I might suggest that you get a job working for one of the operators and avoid the hassels of buying equipment, paying taxes, building boxes, paying the city, insurance, and all the rest. You will probably make the same or more then owning a stand or two.

Ya good luck trying to contain yourself when the waves are ridable and you need to sit there, I give a lot of props to anyone who can do that, if I'm near the beach I need a board under me.

Thats the good thing about owning your own stand. On a good day you can just say fuk it and go in the water. O, aparently the auction was in december, but I still have a chance.

Hey, I have been looking into this for a long time and there is still another way I can get a stand this summer. About how much do you make per stand (profit). I am trying to find out wether it would be better to own one or to work for someone. I know a guy who owns alot of them, he is a teacher at my cousins school. I just want to know what you think would be a better decisions to make. O what streets do you own. My dad is doing this with me and my cousin and he is kind of hesetent on what to do. If you could, he would love to give you or whoever you know in your familly, a call over the phone about the whole situations. PS: this is all about OC Maryland.

    Hey Jimbo,

The teacher you are refering to is most likely my brother!! I don't think you would be around to long with the F....it atitude either working for or in business for yourself. Around here, you have 8 weeks to make your nut for the year. With the bids as high as they are now on good streets, most operaters aren't going to allow you to blow off work for the day. I can tell you first hand, many employers in town are now hiring foreign workers because they are tired of putting up with school kids that want everything and and have no work ethic to get it. I hate to say it, but these Russian kids will work 7 days a week and stay through September and be thankful for the job. As far as employees go, they are hard to beat.

My advice, try and find a job working for Hot and Sunny the same guy who operates the Telescope pictures.

ya your dead on with that one. Not with the immagrant thing though. Where does your brother teach. My cousin goes to some college prep school and that last thing he is is lazy. He works his a$$ off all school year there and has a 4.0. I was saying that if I owned my own I could take an hour off at the end of the day. Believe me if I was working for someone else the last thing I would be was lazy. I work like crazy when I work for someone else. Over last summer I cleaned dishes and I ended up working two or three jobs at the same time because the immagrants didn't feel like working. So, your stereotype is odviously wrong there. I don't like that stereotype at all. People give all of the jobs to he immagrants because they thing they work harder. I work my a$$ off and I speak english, not Russian. So, alot of people would probably rather higher me over an immagrant. O, my cousin goes to worestore prep. Ask you brother about him and I am positive you will retract your statement.

The Russians own all the food stores...Great workers fun to mess with but work like hell all day everyday...Plus company's don't need to pay social security..I think...But yea the F it attitude doesn't put green in your wallet. Just ride in the morning before work and get a quick session in on your break. I did it all summer and it walked out fine...Good luck though with it all

Its not that we don't work as hard as the russians. Your uncle highers them for the beginning and end of the summer. The only reason that he does this is because we are in school for these weeks. Other than that we work on them all week.

Funny u should bring this up again, I was talking to my brother, not uncle, yesterday about hiring for this summer and we came to the conclusion that we are tired of the local kids asking for every weekend off to do whatever and are hiring the Russkies only this year.
