not sure why the other thread was locked especially after backbeatwooddown replied with more threats about his gang.

backbeat - I'm not trying to start an internet fight I'm just saying you have no authority to tell anyone what not to do. Leave it to the coast guard and the park rangers. Just don't want to see you end up in a court room because you thought your actions would go under the radar...

Oblove: hey wallysurfr...YOU ARE A TOOL!

    Good one... really insightful

what happened to surfing? Territorial agro surfers are what has ruined the sport locally. This isn't Hawaii guys. Aren't we out there to have fun? We should be encouraging people after they do something cool in the water, not chasing them out of "our" spots.

A lot of people would argue that kooks are what ruined the sport and 'aggro locals' are an attempt to keep order.

I've been surfing for 25 years and I can tell you localism was WAY worse when I started.

Regulation is a MUST. Whether it be a stern talk or a full on beat down. Either way.....locals need to enforce something.... or their break gets overrun by kooks.

The initial poster was obviously angry, but it seemed to be less about being territorial and more so that the parks were talking about restricting surfing because of the guys who were taking out the skis. Of course as a local that would make you angry if someone from out of town ruined it for everyone else.

plus, who needs to be agro in the lineup, when you can just go off on someone in the Swellinfo forums. :(

I just read the other post and I couldnt help but to laugh

Lets Face it this isnt California or Hawaii , our hightest levels of "localism" couldnt even compare to theres.

And for one guy to come out here and to make threats and say oh if you surf here bah bah bah me and "MY CREW" will give you a beat down just shows that you are a little punk and do have the ballz to be and man and take care of your buisness.

People like that need to grow up and just surf .

obviously what backwood said was kinda redicolous how he'd beat up people and made a new screen name on an internet forum which isnt very tough and most likely was some highschool kid that wouldnt actually do anything, but that being said if we all leave it to the coastguard and park rangers to take action they might close it to everyone which would suck, so to tell them to stop before the coastguard and park rangers are forced to close it is a good thing, and if they continue to do it knowing its illegal and asked to stop then maybe someone should do something including being physical because sometimes thats the only way people will listen

Thats what I am getting at this is Eastcoast Knee hight waves that someone was being towed in to Not DOH Pipeline.

Places like meantioned out west Localism is enforced to protect the safty of locals for the most part as more inexperienced people in the water equal more the chance of someone getting hurt . If you are a outsider and keep to yourself and not get in anyones way and try to be the best thing since slice bread 99.9% of the time you wont even get bothered by locals. Its when you try to act like the next Kelly Slater and start droping in on local and ect. That when a outsider needs to be put in there place.

But Mr. Bully Beat Down was talking about someone towing in on knee high waves at "HIS" spot. I thin he need to stop watching Bra Boys and North Shore and face reality that he is in VA

Backwoods... why post all that nonsense & calling undue attention to your local spot for a video I couldn't even find looking for it.... If you don't want people to surf there don't hype it up on a surf web site. I do agree with the low profile comment on surf travel. I don't think I've ever achieved local status anywhere because my father was in the service and now that I am older so is my wife. I stay moving every few years so I know a thing or two about approaching new spots. I've found in my travels, if you are respectful and you can shred when given the chance, you will get yours in just about every lineup. As the perennial outsider I think aggressive localism sucks and unless things get out of hand, is generally unneeded. Lets face it, as east coasters, we all have our favorite bar but chances are when its knee high there its knee high everywhere else too... just saying not a whole lot of options abound in most locations.
ps Backwoods...there is a reason no one travels to 1st street from out of state... the waves suck here.

To me, this isnt about localism. It doesnt matter if these guys are from OC MD or VB. Even if they were locals, it was not cool to do.

But let me get one thing staight, Towing into Small waves is RIDICULOUSLY fun. I think people should stop pointing out that this was a "stupid or un-needed" session. Yes, it was in poor taste to ILLEGALLY tow into anything. But towing at little 2 foot beach breaks was super fun when Ive done it. We dont do it out here at the beaches because I think the same laws apply, but my friend has a house and a ski down in Baja, and last time I was down there it was like 2-3 feet. We whipped into 3 footer all day on the ski and had a blast... But it was legal. And super fun.

The issue is that its against the law and it could get local authorities involved in shutting the place down. No one wants that....

But just to put the localism thing into perspective here... Most guys I know on this site all tell me how regardless of living in VB, WB, or OC, when good swells come, they all go down to OBX... None of you guys live there, but you surf there and travel there, so its the same as VB guys coming up to OC. I bet the OBX locals hate most of the guys from VB and OC and everywhere because they only come down when its good and crowd up their lineups...

And in OBX, every other year I have read a post or comment with the same stuff happening down in the banks. THey guys werent asying its illegal, but they were yelling at guys for being inconsiderate, and not being safe on the skis and stuff...

So, anytime someone shows up at your break with a ski, you are gonna get mad... But if you were getting whipped in on one, you would love it....

Only thing these guys did wrong is use a state park illegally. Which should get them banned from the state of MD/DE for life... but as far as localism, I think everyone in the midatlantic invades other peoples turf based on where the best surf is....

Remember in CA and Hawaii, there are many more places to surf, so while the sick world class waves are always crowded, there are 100 other less quality spots that are still super fun that people can go... If there are 4 states full of people all planning on hitting the same strectch of beach on the same day, you are going to have a much bigger problem that out west I think.... People get beat up in CA and HA for surfing PIPELINE and TRESTLES and all the spots everyone knows. Those locals will kick your as$ because there are perfectly good waves north and south of there... So the only reason you are there is because the name of the break... It always makes me wonder why people travel out here and go to the most crowded spots they can find... Its always Swamis, and Blacks and Trestles and the Cliffs... Meanwhile, if you know where to look, you can get your own wedging beach break alone in July... its all how you look at it...

Usually, even really good surfers are clueless when they travel and go the gringo kook route and clog up the most notoriously local spot they can find... Lame.

This guy is just some random troll on an internet forum. He joined, made 3 ridiculous posts, then got banned. Being a frequenter of forums for a long time, you see this kind of thing happen and pay no attention to it. You guys shouldn't be getting your panties in such a bunch!

The more you let his presence impact you, the more you let him accomplish his purpose.
