Have you been there today? Can you let me know conditions of surf? Is it okay for me to go out without getting in the way? I missed out going yesterday and I'm upset I missed the practice. I'm torn between taking my funboard and shortboard. What I do want is to see how I paddle on a shortboard, but I seriously don't care to have the kook title put on me when I'm just experimenting. Is there some place around Belmar where I won't be railed for trying to learn?

Jesus Friggin Christ. Just SHUT UP and GO!!! You're either gonna get your a$$ beat in the water or by the water. We all gotta take an A$$ beatin now and again. It'll toughen you up. I was staying away from all this but i cannot take it anymore! Surfing is a selfish individual thing. And most important and what point you are missing is that it is spontaneous. Stop trying to map it all out and just do it! By yourself. I hate to sound mean but that's what you gotta do. You remind me of Rick Kane in North Shore.

It's not bad at all. I can get there on average, about 40 minutes straight down 195. I pick up 195 off 29 near the Trenton Thunder stadium. If we leave by three today I can expect to get in the water before 4 p.m. and have a good hour or more before the hardcore guys get there after work. Distance from here to there is only reason I chose Belmar as my break. Eventually I'll find a break better suited to my skill needs but for now Belmar is it.
p.s. what is this North Shore? I understand it's a movie but what is the fascination with it?

Eastern Lines usually posts a surf report on Swellinfo and theSurfersView.com has a Belmar cam. Otherwise, you can call the shop up to find out the surf. Those options are your best bet.

Thanks I did end up calling and learned wave is clean, waist high with water deep :)
Of course by the time I get in, that will likely all change and I will see intimidating head high scarey stuff. Oh well, I was told I gotta take my lumps so I'll be running in hard :D

It is a favorite/cult classic among surfers. I posted a youtube clip from it in your other thread. It is about a guy who wins a contest in a wave pool in Arizona, and takes his money to go surf the contest season on the North Shore of Hawaii.
