Been surfing in belmar twice. While i like the culture, i get jammed up every time. First time I broke my favorite board in the gonzalo swell. Next morning lost all of my schoolbooks. Last time left headlights on before session and car was dead after. Easy fix, when you put positive and negative on the correct sides of battery. Of course it was reversed, nice local said i almost fried his car. Well i fried my car. Triple A came out and couldnt fix it. Had to get towed back to philly four deep if you include my buddys dog. The tow was free cause of triple A, but turned out to be a buck fifty for the fuse that got zapped. So belmar..
Probably best to avoid Belmar then. Not everybody can handle it. You're lucky you didn't get your sh!t tossed in the ocean when you almost fried that local's car. My advise is to go back to doing your girlfriend's laundry.
Man - sorry to hear about your experiences at The Belmar. Maybe just be a little more careful next time. There are some friendly locals there... And Belmar does have the best waves in the world... So my guess is that you'll be back... In time... Next time will be better, it always it- just keep surfing the Belmar.
Back in the day nobody surfed The 'Mar... for that reason. The place is cursed. People would scurry through there on their way to Spring Lake, eyes front, not daring to glance over their shoulder at perfect 23' A-frames... the screeching sound of banchees ringing in their ears. Rumor has it there was a salty old local Irishman that got burned by kid from Philly on a big hurricane swell and ended up drowning. His ghost haunts the place to this very day, seeking out PA folk and exacting his revenge.
I recommend Deal as an alternative. I see lots of people who surf there with similar curses or signs and symptoms of kookitis. I'm sure theres plenty of people there too who could share similar tales with you of their encounters with surfing in Belmar. Mr. Belmar had some pretty good advice too... stay in Belmar.
deal nj is where the shredmachine is from even the shredmachine surfs the b-mar, i might just move to b-mar next week, but i might die because the 23foot waves break in 2 feet of water sometimes.
Where is that? A surf spot in NH?? Really - it sounds like a retirement community in Florida or something...
