Was getting real stoked about wed, but now looks like theres going to be thunderstorms all day possibly. This will just be a huge tease if that happens....
yah, hopefully something comes through. i took the day off, so i'm going either way but do you think the winds will knock down the surf again just like arthur? hopefully not...
Happened to us yesterday. You just have to keep an eye on the radar and when you see it clear. GO! It was raining yesterday and I was pretty close to calling it off for the day. There was a lot of thunder. Once I didn't hear any for about 30 minutes, I checked it. Guards were on the beach. Hundreds of people in the water, so I went anyway.. Super fun. Rainy, but the thundrestorms broke. They were calling 80% thunder all day yesterday. With how fickle this swell is, regardless of how "not perfect" it may look, you got go when you see the opening. If it's anything like it was down here, you will deal with that on and off as it passes. But on a good note, today was the peak and the clean up. Perfect weather. light, 5MPH winds and 11-12 second period swell with punch to it. This area typically doesn't even break at low tide. I went at low tide for 3 hours as it rose and it was powerful, super fast and incredibly fun.... So, hopefully the clean up day will follow that trend the whole way up the coast.
I am sure every area will be different, but this one stayed far enough off the coast that we never got any offshore flow. Kept it plenty powerful. OBX and Delmarva might get some off the bottom band, but everywhere north of there will probably get onshore, which at the end of the day doesn't bother me, cause if kept the waves plenty powerful.
That's how the day before Artie was for us...in the water for an hour, bands of storms, hour in the water, storms, repeat...I don't know about youse guys, but I don't fux with lightning. Once I see a bolt i'm in the truck getting irie.
Yeah, I am with you there. I was sketched yesterday even though I hadn't heard it in a while. I don't fu** with lightening and water. Period. But once I saw the guards all go back out and I pulled up the radar and the coast looked clear, I went on it. Had I heard thunder, I would have one right back to work, pronto. I have had numerous fishing endeavors cut short around here in the summer. Because where I usually go involved wading through water in and out and sitting out on a tiny bar with giant metal rods. The second I hear that rumble, I say, lets pack this sh** up and go grab a pint. I am all about the live radar and satellite feeds. That will usually tell you everything you need to know. Could be a wives tale, but a close friend of mine told me how he was bar tending at a tiki bar down in Coligny beach here about 10 years ago. He said there was one surfer out. He heard thunder/lightening and a bunch of his bar guests started pointing out to the water. He said homeboy had been roasted, and was just floating face down. Gone. He said there was not even a warning. No previous thunder, nada. Poor guy was just out for a nice sunset session and got zapped. That story always pops in my head and makes me proceed with caution.
Yeah man, nothing to be fooled with. I've seen a few strikes hit the water from a boat and it was cool but not cool at the same time.
Yeah Surf&Turf just to make sure you know I was kidding about going out in lightning. Please don't fry yourself.
He would b!tch slap a gay guy after almost stepping on his little dog, throw up some mad lbs on the bench, bang his hindu then say fuk you lightining and sherd it up!
Be careful in those T-storms kids! A month or so back some guys working on the roof of a local car dealer were struck by lightning. Clear blue sky, the storm was several mailes away. And there's this from Volusia County: https://www.facebook.com/373681702664264/photos/a.417771341588633.98177.373681702664264/798141533551610/?type=1 This crater in the sand was not from a child's sand castle. It was from a dangerous lightning strike!
