i'm praying for less chop, i've been out the last couple days just to see if i can catch anything...choppy, mushy, unorganized....i just moved to nmb i hope its not always like this :\
If it's coming right at us, like Ophelia did in 2005, it will be choppy and rough and hard to ride. Plus a lot of beach erosion. Let's hope they all pass by way out to sea like this one seems to be doing.
Right after hurricane/tropical storm charlie came through a few years back, the waves were about 6ft for about an hour or two, then dropped to like 3-4 feet for the rest of the evening. The current was horrible for the first couple of hours, then after I got out and walked a mile up the beach, I got back out and the current stopped completely, so I ended up walking a good way back down the beach. There were good lefts and rights and it was pretty hollow (enough for a little cover up). This was all while the tide was dropping super quick as well ("high" tide occurred right after the eye passed over), so it did get a little dumpy. But, it was one of the best days I've seen in nmb. Needless to say my dad freaked out because he told me I had to help clean up right after the storm passed, and as soon as he went away for a few minutes, I took off with my surfboard for a few hours so, it can be good if the storm does come right over us (I walked on the beach during the eye), but more often it will be very messy. It all depends on local wind conditions like previously stated.
I didn't try to explain or comment on anything. I asked a question. I thought that was what discussion boards were for. I've been out the past 3 days at CB and its been nothing but unorganized chop. You can catch one if you are patient and lucky, but its hard to get anything with a decent line on it.
