r. Island is not great (for a surfer). The whole eastern seaboard is jacked! Man, we are all crack (wave) heads. The grind is real. What are we doing...catching waves and shit
I would have to agree that if I were to move anywhere on the east coast the cocoa to melbourne area would be the spot.....warm water affordable housing never wear booties some good restaurants and fun consistent surf . Also being close to Orlando's airport is a huge plus flights to great surf destinations are short and cheap from there because of stupid arse Disney world. Cheers yall
^^^I know what you're saying LP, but when N/S Dakota get listed in several "studies" as best places to retire, I don't get it. When you're long in the tooth, the weather alone (Siberia winters) would put the place at the bottom of the list, IMO...unless you have younger family around able to help out. Of course, age and the stage of one's life determine what factors are important.
Yeah, Disney World does suck, but it certainly would be a great place fro Trump to meet with Kim Jung Un. He could have Rocketman ride on Space Mountain!!
Del Boca Vista!!!!! You think I've never ridden in a Cadillac before??? 100s of times....1000s of times! Man if Trump, Kim and Denis Rodman meet at Disney it would be somethin special
The whole Trump / NK thing is playing out almost exactly like Reagan and his "Axis of Evil" and "Star Wars" ploy with the Russians. What would all of Trump's detractors say if such a meeting ended with "glasnost" and "perestroika" policies?
I can picture it now....Kim Jung Un, Trump, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy....all in a group hug!! "It's a small world after all" music playing in the background.....
Virginia Beach, Virginia is awesome if you're down to drive to good waves! Living in the OBX during the winter can be very empty and boring when there's not swell...
imo, such a place doesn't exist, best place to be a surfer. heres why, u think of a spot like cali,or oz,etc where its warm, perfect waves, but what u don't think of is the 10 million people that surf there.so do u want nice warm waves where u might get 5 waves in 5 hours,or would u rather be in a cold location like nj and go out in march when the waters 39 and no crowds?.doesnt make it the best place to be a surfer but Id rather be here than there. in reality tho id rather be in southern California, but id probably get burnt out after 2 years and move back east.im not a fan of competition,i wouldn't want to paddle battle every sesh
Know the feeling with Bergen County, outside of having a nice house there and making good money! I lived there for the first 31 years of my life, then moved back for a few years again in my 30’s. Surfing more than twice a week (at most) was almost impossible. Occasionally I could leave after work and drive down, but those were peak hours driving the Turnpike and Parkway south. So if I pulled out at 4:40 PM, I was lucky to get to the beach by 6:10 PM, which it’s already dark by unless it’s March-October. And that was back when daylight savings time started in April and not March. And we all know that time of year is pretty spotty for surfing in Jersey. Luckily I was able to take my bort into work and leave it in a storage closet, so I didn’t have to drive all the way back to my place and get them, wasting another 30-40 minutes with traffic at that time of the late afternoon/early evening. I was out on the road all day doing service work, but my borts were safe in the closet there in the main office. Still have the dream of Oahu and won’t be giving that up, but Central Florida would be suite, if not for the warm(er) climate all year long.
San Diego is a place that I’d love to be in if I had to pick a place in the lower 48. I think LA is kind of overrated, but I do love the little beach towns like Seal Beach and Newport, which are quite a distance from LA with the massive traffic, that makes Jersey’s look like a pimple. There isn’t much work in what I do in San Diego, but I’d love to be near there. Nice climate year round, even though not really warm enough in the warmer months. Nice laid back place. Beautiful beaches, consistent surf. More tolerable traffic than the LA/Orange County area.
I do love the light crowd factor here in the winter/ early spring. I hate crowds. I’ve only been to SoCal once for surfing, but I never saw the crowd factor as that bad. At major breaks, of course you’re going to get it. But, they have such a large stretch of coast there that lightly-crowded peaks can be found. Maybe I’m wrong because I don’t live there and deal with it day in and day out. I just really like their climate. They do have serious grid lock and the transient population is growing out of control though....
