...This is exactly what I meant in posting best summer in a long time. I'm talking about consistency as rvb said (guess I should have mentioned that). I've been surfing at least waist high days I'd say 60-70% of the days here in Central NJ. In particular, as others have pointed out the last few weeks have been really consistent. Of course it would be nice to have a few chest-head high days thrown in there, but I don't really expect that in NJ during the summer, until we really get into Aug-Sept during hurricane season... With that said, I've had a blast this summer and I think these waist high days have helped me improve my surfing, specifically my turning (just by the fact that its been so consistent... allowing to practice quite often). This brings me to the point of surfing in general in NJ and needing consistency to allow you to progress as a surfer. If you lived in Hawaii, Cali, etc. where it's more consistent I feel like people would progress much quicker and be better surfers. So for the consistency this summer, I am stoked on that aspect... We're not skateboarders who ride the same exact ramp every day, trying to practice the same exact move every time, without any variables.
i agree this summer central nj has given me more time in the water than i can remember in the recent years past. hell, its not even august yet!! as you guys mentioned i also remember summer of 95, 15 years old looking at the weather channel and 3+ good hurricanes all going at the same time. i got fired from my first job that summer as a result
Hey y'all refresh my memory. I remember 1995 for all of it's hurricane swells that popped up late August through September....... But I don't remember June or July. Was it any good?
Can't recall any specific dates, but I do remember some good July days...I think Felix was pretty early in August. Godspeed PJB.
This describes Maryland this summer perfectly. Better than most summers with long flat spells, but very consistent weak knee-waist high days, and July should have 75 degree water NOT 65 degree water. Surfing two foot waves in a 3/2 got old.
I looked at the cam 10ish. I think they all called everyone on their phone and said Surf's Up! Holy bejeezus there are a lot of people out in VB. No need to paddle out, just step on the bobble heads until you're outside.
Today was fun in WW, nice waist to chest with the occasional head high close outs. Around 7 this morning we had some punchy waist high barrels that I got to sneak in on a 7' foamie
I think I've only been in once or twice so far this summer w/o a 3/2.........amazing! Today was the best day this summer for me though. Waist to chest long period rollers, perfectly clean, no wind, cool air and water and almost no one in the line up!
