I like surfing films that are not shot in Tahiti, Indo, etc..that is my first requirement. They also have to show some missed waves, wipe outs, interesting features.. There is a guy who some time ago posted a short, basic clip of his buddies surfing in NJ (not Sam Hammer and what have you) and it was neat to watch. It also had a good song. It was like his school project or something (IIRC) Aside of that, I always liked what Mikey did with Sight Sound. Lavarase Los Manos, because Nate F. is an animal. Little Victories, because it's normal CA waves for the most part. Whatever Norwell9 puts out. Nowadays every bro has a drone and you almost have to weed out **** after every single EC swell..there will be 8 different videos of that day, sometimes from breaks just miles away. So it's kinda like whatever. I usually dry wetsuite and watch Jeopardy instead. Gets me stoked to get back out everytime
Kelly's barrel riding in Sipping Jetstreams it fantastic... he's on the foam ball half the time. Good travel flick, too. In fact most of the stuff from Taylor Steele is good... old and new.
Men at Work starring the great Charlie Sheen and his brother Emilio Estevez. They play two garbage men/surfers trying to save money to open their own surf shop. They find a dead politician in the trash and hilarity ensues. A must watch. A close second is 'The Occumentary' I always liked his lantern-jawed power.
I still haven't seen View from a Blue Moon. I'm not sure why? I know surf shops barely (if at all) carry surf movies anymore. I've looked for it out but guess I'm going to have to pay to watch it on You tube, iTunes, etc... Having said that the last surf flick I bought was Who is J.O.B, which was very solid, even though he's a moron. This one while no where near the best I've seen was a solid watch over the weekend.
I also used to get high, watch 'Bunyip Dreaming', then go surf the Wooden jetty and try to do cutbacks like Occy. Now, I just get high and watch Bunyip Dreaming....
+1 for Shelter. First time I heard Mason Jennings, who has since become one of my favorite artists. I'll also put in a plug for Out of Order. I don't remember if the surfing is that good, but the soundtrack is hot, and the bro'ed out surfer quotes are downright legendary....
