I was surfing today and hit a really really shallow bar and the rail on my nose basically splintered off. so now there is a 3" strip missing off the rail right at the nose. It is showing nothing but the foam. Now its hanging upside down to dry. How would I go about fixing this? Should i sand down the jagged edges and just fill it with epoxy resin?
I would just take it to freedom surf. I just got mine back from them and they did a excellent job on my quadfish.
that's why i've always been skeptical of firewires. they seem like really sick boards, but you get a ding in the bamboo and your ****ed. you could try to fill it in with epoxy but i don't know how that's going to hold and it might affect the flex of the rest of the board. i would ask the shop you bought it from
If you were in NJ I would say take it to Jamie Kelly at Heritage Surf in OCNJ or Ship it to Firewire and they can repaire it
YEah thorw it in the trash or sell it all screwed up you will get good money for it. YOu guys are pretty helpful I would suggest not doing this on your own if this board is fairly new. if its older and you just want the thing water tight then use some epoxy resin filler (resin and microspheres/ glass bubbles) let it go off sand it down then use cloth and resin on the top of that for strength. You can always get balsa from Home Depot if you want to fill the hole with balsa, use epoxy resin to adhere the wood in, sand the wood down flush and then glass it with cloth and resin. Firewire tech is great when they stay together but a repair done incorrectly could cause more damage in the future possibly. I know down my way Firewire repairs are done by outher banks boarding company, Lynn Shell does the repairs and i believe he uses the same sort of vacuum bag glassing on big repairs but I am not 100% sure. Honeslty if this board is still pretty new and one you want to keep in your quiver for awhile I would get it done by a pro!
