We've got 9ft buoys right now and those are looking to remain for 3 days but onshores will be constant. What mph wind would you say makes an onshore unrideable in HH-OH swell? I'm not saying when is it clean, I mean when will it be worth surfing where there are any sections to be found. How many knots braddahs?

Depends on the interval, the bars & how they're lined up, as well as swell direction. The Place That Shall Not Be Named can be surfed in onshore winds up to about 13-15 knots if it's big enough & the other factors come into line.

There's few absolutes in this game, spicoli, c'mon you know that.

Yankee pretty much nailed it. 15 mph onshore seems to be the max around here where it's still worth it, just for the sake of giving you an answer. Best bet, just check it out and make the call. Iv surfed big onshore days that were an absolute blast and other times it's just a mess out there. Always hit or miss with onshore winds, just gotta stay positive and hope for a hit

Anubody remember the light onshores vs. offshores debate around here? I think it had just started to simmer down around the time I joined.

15 knots unless you have a cove or jetty as protection. Then still go out, just catch the inside reform instead of trying to make it to the outside and getting lost in the whitewash. There will be some inside nugs on the incoming high tide. Drift and repeat.

Was out yesterday in bayhead it was actually a real fun session and I'd say the winds though depicted at 15 were more around 10... I like to check the local weather and winds of a spot from a weather forecasting site which helps to more accurately predict.... got regulated real bad by mother nature yesterday... got caught in a current pushing towards a jetty and stuck on the inside after going for a bomb which cleaned my clock.. never have I ever been more in a panic taking waves on the head and swimming for my life... I declare myself a christian after yesterday I prayed after I miraculously was scooped past the jetty and slopped onto the beach.. i swear i was within 6 feet of the jetty since my board was floating over the rocks..be safe out there dudes the rips and currents were bad yesterday

nice 4ft sets today; they were a little hurricane-y...righteous swell but wind was not our best friend...

Really good size this morning, super fast drift though, outside sets were the only choice, had to be real selective cause the wrong wave would hurt this morning. I would say much better/cleaner than yesterday evening but had to work harder at it today. The onshore breeze actually helped this morning, it felt a little stronger than yesterday and allowed the crumble at the peak served to get you into right spot earlier...
Hoping I get to paddle out tonight.... checkin the cams and it looks promising! this swell def has some good juice.

15 knots (= 17+ mph) is way too much for me. 10 knots is about when things get too sketchy to bother for me...although a much more advanced surfer may be able get a few in slightly windier.
