Maybe at the 5 to 6 ft. wave range. It'll be on the tight side, though. Surf it in anything smaller than 4 ft and the tail will sink at or after the bottom turn and it'll bog out. I guess you could pump through....

Don't think of a longboard as a "want" item as much as a "need" item for learning and small days.

Split the difference and get a fun shape. Then you can choose your path to shortness or longboard from there. 7'6 or so

Let me say this once, for the love of god please dont get a gun to replace a longboard....you will be miserable. Guns are used maybe 1 day a year in NJ. That sir will be a waste of you money.

+1...tons of options out there if you want to grovel without a LB...but 3-6'...you could ride a fish, hp fish, HP shortboard, hybrid, etc. in waves at thta height...

haha im sorry im laughing but this was just too funny. yea you won't need a gun on the east coast unless it gets over like 10ft+ and how many times that happen? the east coast isn't really made to handle bigger waves with the sand/ beach breaks unless you're at select spots. fish, fun shape, longboard all good ways to go for the east coast

That's not a good idea. first off a seven foot board isn't a big wave gun, and those kind of boards are awful in small waves anyways.

buying a gun would be a big waste of money unless your a sponsored pro that gets boards handed to them.the east coast has no use for a gun unless your paddlin outer sandbars that can hold 15ft.another thing u must think about, surfing waves like that, your going to break boards like twigs.i made the mistake of tryin to surf a gun my 1st 2 years when i had no clue about surfing and there were nobody else around to tell me so,until i went to belmar one day and they looked at my like check this kook out lol.traded it in and been good ever since

3-6 foot surf in NJ should be in your wheelhouse! Ride what is most comfortable to you and charge...dont think too hard and surf your balls off!
