I just looked at a new big wave feature on surfline and am wondering. Why are practically all big wave shots (teahupoo, jaws, mavericks, etc) shot from a side-on close up angle? Most of the time the pictures are from a boat in the channel but change it up a little, pull back show more prespective, sit farther away, I am very bored with big wave pictures and movies and usually don't look at them not for lack of surfing but for lack of filming. Does anyone in photography or whatever notice it too?

The reason why they shoot from a channel on a boat is generally these spots break way out to sea or on a way outer reef that you just can't get a good shot unless you have a 600mm lens, which not many people have. I think I read that it was a deep water spot, so it means that it is possibly a few miles out to sea. Ever seen Step into Liquid? They are at a spot at the end way out to sea.

Alright, here is another question, similar topic of repetitiveness, but different situation. Has anyone ever noticed when they advertise flat-screen TVs in ads on TV or in the paper, that there is almost always a picture of someone surfing on the screen. What the hell is the deal with that?

dude, dont you know? having an lcd tv makes you surf way better. thats why kelly is so good, he has a 60 inch, and he keeps a tiny one with him wherever he goes. its like some radiation that makes him bionic. i read it in a book once. geez, where is yours?

does anyone notice how tv shows and movies cant ever get surfing right? how about point break, and orange county (with jack black), and every other freaking movie or show that does anything with surfing. i think that if they mess with the sport like that, then chuck norris should dish out some roundhouse kicks that their kids will feel.
