New Jersey..... November 27, 2013. Especially up by the Belmar area. No, I'm serious.

December 15 was real in New Jersey, too. Had some east coast size and it was thick. God, it's all so relative isn't it. Some call 8 foot big, and for some 8 foot bores them.......

And I've been hearing aboot this past spring swell, but man, I don't remember anything that made my memory banks from last spring.........

Overall, the worst year I can really remember.

Have a friend that keeps a log. During this horrid late summer / fall flat spell, he looked back and realized in our area we only had two head high plus swells last spring + Andrea. Then we made it all the way until November 27 until we had a significant swell. It's been a tough run

There was a swell around the middle of June that was such an epic day in NJ. I forget the exact date, but I remember sitting in the water and the guy next to me was like "this will be the last head high wave you'll see for three months."

    He was right.

I think the biggest this season was the Pre Thanksgiving swell. I love paddling out and getting the jitters cause of the size

If I was corny, I'd say to this: " I love paddling out and getting the jitters cause of the size."

    That's what she said.

But I won't say that because I'm not corny.

Yeah bad year. My spot kept me interested in the summer. Hey, I'm a realist/pessimist so if I get one or two 2-4' days a week in July and August, I'm happy. I don't expect nothing. I don't get real upset at not surfing much in the summer because all the people creeps me out. Though my spot seems to be taylor swift made for the summer any more. It becomes a magnet for any south swell activity. I've seen much worse summers. Much worse.

This fall was terrible until Thankygiving.......but just think of how many dudes decided to give up the whole surfing thing because of the lack of tropical activity this past year. " That's it, I'm playing golf...."

But yeah, I can only remember one 4-6' day in Sept/Oct..........that day was pretty good. I don't know, nothing really makes a lasting impression anymore.

biggest swell is to me an irrelevant point but when conditions are great ill take a nice head high day over messy double overhead but thanksgiving swell for sure was good and big

Maybe it was different the more south you go, but it straight up cranked here for three weeks consecutive late-April through mid-May. All day every day. Big swell, and clean swell. Not just that, but sunny days as well and mild to warm temps. So much stoke it wasn't even funny. Why do you think I got obsessed? It was that run of swell.

Yeah, we had the repeated lulls that would last weeks at a time but then I just went to Rhodey to find stoke. Then ES then CA. The Carver has helped greatly in between. I've surfed so much in the last 10 months I can't even do the memoirs. Jerz guys say there was swell all summer and Carolina brahs say the fall was great, so it's varied widely depending on where you are but all evens out. Not sure what you guys are looking for in a year and I know you've had legendary years like '95, but take what you can get. If the dry spells purged lineups everywhere, chalk that up as a win for the good guys and look forward to 2014.

If it ain't good enough for you then go he like those other FOGs and hit the golf course.

A 21 day straight swell, huh?

And don't tell me to go play golf.

You want to take a swing at me don't you, Spicoli?

The spring swell (June). It was going off. It wasn't the biggest day, but probably the best quality.

Oh I remember that swell. I 'member it real good....

Plus, my bad, I consider June...as summer. Yes, not technically correct, but neither am I.

Doug, hang in there, man. Don't ever give up.......

I don't seem to recall the late April, 3 week bonanza swell............

I feel like Jersey never gets big, messy, and "rideable". Yeah sometimes it will be a double overhead red man, but you can't paddle out in that **** and expect to get more than a 2 second ride. It's either big and hollow, or a sloppy nasty washing machine. There is no in between (at least in NJ)

really??worst year ever??I think this was the greatest year of surfing for nj for the past 20 years.yea summer was flat, but when is summer not flat?all those swells that came in jan, feb, perfect overhead barrels.early winter since November,we been averaging head high to overhead barrels once a week.if that's not epic I don't know what is because we had a good swell either every week or once every 2 weeks and its still continuing.anytime I see mike gleasons ride at my spot hes been frequenting every time I know its goin off

If I remember correctly last winter was good. We got the thanksgiving swell, then we got the doomsday swell, then we got a solid head high day, only one, in january, frebruary and march. And then not a real swell until thanksgiving.

It's not a big deal. If you're on the east coast and didn't just start surfing you should know the drill. Months without real waves. Que es la vida, mis amigos.

This winter in Charlestonia has been pretty awesome. Pretty consistent waist or larger waves for many days out of the week.

That June swell was big... and there was a swell back in the first or second week in January that was a real macker, too... I think bigger than the June swell. Check the photo archives... Thanksgiving and the day before were up there with the biggest days, too.

But for up here, the answer is easy... the swell we had just a few weeks ago. Easily DOH at the peak of the swell in Northern Monmouth... and nobody wanted any part of it where I saw it, including me. Just too massive and relentless on the inside to make it to the outside... and the outside was getting cleaned up by the biggest sets, breaking even further out. You needed a jet ski or something... I can't remember seeing it bigger.
